Inside my NEW BROOKLYN Townhouse | Ryan Serhant

I watched this You Tube video of Ryan Serhant's (from the TV show Million Dollar Listing: NY) new Brooklyn townhouse that he & his wife redid. I guess it took them 3 years to do it. I can only imagine what it must've cost! It's pretty, but not sure I'd want a place like this. Some of the rooms & finishes are really lovely, though.

This is far from what most people's Brooklyn apartments look like.

I would love to see what every day residents can do with their apartments (homes, condos etc ) using taste and creativity with not a fortune to spend.

It is much easier to have a perfectly appointed home (providing you have taste and or an excellent designer) ) when you have almost unlimited funds to spend. However, I do like what was done here too.

Stunning! I can't imagine how many tens of millions was spent on it!....Love the outdoor patio area, master bath & closet, kitchen, stairway & gym...I didn't care for the kitchen island, it was a little too angular for my taste, but overall an incredible townhouse!

@Flatbush I also come here hoping to see posters creativity. Working with what they have and realistic budgets.

His townhouse ? I would have loved to see the original brick work and wood work restored to it's original glory. Seems if you wanted to spend and modernize to this degree you'd do it in Manhattan, not Brooklyn.

It just looks like every other designer influenced townhouse to me. Kind of cold and lots of neutrals but oh so perfect.

I like the views.

But he seems to like it and I hope he finds his person to "take care of" the "f... fly like he said🙄

I love it and that's my idea of dream living. I would choose luxury city living over any other setting, but that's me. And I have lived city, rural and beach.

My son's friend and his family just moved to Brooklyn and are renting an apartment. He went to visit and said it's a great spot in a great neighborhood, but it is really small, but very modern. Two bed, one bath about 700 square feet for a family of three. He wasn't sure of the rent, but he was sure it was pretty pricey. No, most folks don't live like this, but nice to view though the lens of cash floooooow!

Of course the home is stunning but I don't find it warm or welcoming at all. I did watch the show on TV.

The Gym is my favorite room...I would LOVE to have that room in my home!!

I watched the limited series about his remodel, which was on in the past five weeks. They gave a running total of what it cost to renovate, giving quite a few details. I don't recall the numbers, but it seems every thing that had to be changed, like raising the ceiling in one room, cost upwards of millions.

I'm sure it can be seen on reruns.

When the finished product bears absolutely no resemblance to the original I often wonder why folks bought in the first place... Some of the fixed elements and finishes are delightful but overall, the house doesn't check off many of my boxes. The decor is trite, bland and predictable, if over the top pricey... I only watched one season of this show and it was the year he bought this house, primarily because he couldn't sell it, as I recall... It's a monster of a house and way more than I'd want... It might have been interesting to see what could have been done to restore the house instead of essentially gutting it and starting from scratch...

Considering he did a show about the renovation & "tagged/mentioned" everyone/company that did the design, plus specifically mentioned certain brands of items as he showed them...it probably cost him very little overall between his income from the show & product/service "sponsers" who did the work or provided furniture/appliances/finishes for free.

He has the celebrity status to do this where most people would not. Good for him taking advantage of this but in the real world where most people would have to pay out of pocket, can't get contractors & furnishings for free/greatly reduced cost, plus have the funds to do so-it's not reality.

Yes-I'm jealous not being able to get a multi million dollar home upgrade for pennies 😭

While I appreciate his minimalistic approach and neutral decor--oh and the great outdoor living spaces, I am left with a somewhat cold and sterile feeling.

I truly enjoy small spaces, although a home only 27' wide might take some getting used to. Of course that means you have to go "up", but I am not a fan of many different living /family rooms on several different levels. I have a.cousin who built a new home and while touring it I stopped counting after five such living/tv areas. "Hey hon, do you want to watch a movie tonight? Ok, but what floor?"🥴

And last, and probably what influenced me in formulating my opinion, while I don't watch these shows, I didn't find him to be a very likeable guy.

I wonder if him being a realtor in the NYC area & being exposed to & seeing all the various high-end elements & finishes in the places that are selling there, he opted to put a lot of what he knows a future buyer might want in a place into he & his wife's Brooklen townhome? I guess a lot of her Greek family will stay with them off & on.

@stevieb If I recall the short (perhaps 6 weeks) series he did showing the renovation as it was being done, the number one thing was that his wife wanted to be in Brooklyn. And then he would only agree to a certain area in Brooklyn, certain streets. Plus, they both didn't want anyone above or below them, so they needed to purchase an entire building.

I also think it was a historic building (could be wrong on that), so there were certain things they had to do to preserve it, which meant more money to work around various issues with the building.

Since he makes all his money being a realtor, he knew which areas held the best value and would give them their biggest return, His wife mentioned she didn't plan to move after this, so he wanted to make it the very best he could for her.

The place where they did live before was very nice; think it was in Manhattan, not sure about that though. They were offered $15 million for it. Don't know what they actually got for it.

His wife is Greek and her whole family showed up off and on during the renovation. Her mom lives with them, in the old place and this new place, but the father doesn't. Ryan is very close to her family, so he wanted to ensure when they come to visit, he wanted to have a lot of rooms for them all. And when they visit, they come for weeks, not just a few days.

He even handcarried a small olive tree over to the townhouse and her brother and father helped him in making sure one was planted in the back yard, because it is considered an important element in the landscaping for Greeks.

@Patriot3 There is more than three that live there. His mother-in-law has lived with them in the past and he had a special suite designed for her. Ryan's wife is Greek and the father and brother come to visit, and other relatives too. Ryan likes his in-laws, which he has mentioned several times in the short series he did. He wanted to make sure everyone had a room to call their own when they come. And when they do, they come for weeks.

The only room that I was surprised to see them design was for Zena, their daughter, for when she is older. It is already decorated. In my world, I would have just changed the current room for the little one as she grows older. But it is totally different. I think it will even be on a different floor.

Right now the mother-in-law is there to take care of the youngster, the live-in babysitter. But even if there wasn't a child, I think her mom would be there. They are very close.

And they intend to have a big Greek family, so he wanted a place that will already be the size he will need when they have more children. He didn't want to keeping moving as the family increased.

Most of the spaces are too neutral for me. Way too much white. One living area had a bit more color which was nice. Overall, it doesn't look very inviting. As a visitor I'd be afraid I'd spill or ruin something in that home.

It seems like a lot of space for a small family even with occasional visitors. I think I heard him say 8 bedrooms and 4 living rooms. I don't remember how many bathrooms. I guess I have a difficult time relating to people who live like this which is why I've never watched or been interested in his show, or really any show about how millionaires spend their money.

I would have liked to see the home before all that work was put into it. I am sure there were elements I would have kept as I find the new place too stark and cold for my taste. However, the spaciousness of the home is very appealing and having an elevator, great! I wasn't fond of the furnishings either, too modern. All in all it is a lovely place but for me different furnishings and decor would have to be.
