A RAID ON BIG LOTS, CANDLES ETC.

A really good java candle at Big Lots! I'm burning it right now as I enjoy some 'Pike's Place' iced coffee from my Keurig-- double whammy.

Hadn't been to BL in a long while, and was just wandering through there when I saw this 3 wick candle-- Broyhill's "Fresh Roasted Coffee" at $8.00. Coffee is my favorite scent of almost anything, and this has a good fragrance throw-- it's filling my living room. Mmmmm. There was only one of these on the shelf at BL, and I'm not surprised they are selling briskly.

I really like the tan ceramic jar, too. It has that wavy, organic sort of modern look. Nice change, and it's interesting that warmer neutrals and colors are showing up now everywhere, up and down the decor scale....

Was surprised to see two other items there that I alerted here quite a while ago. They are two of my best purchases from the store.

This sleek pitcher, $10, at just 7 inches high, turned out to be a cool utensil holder for my big wooden spoons and wooden spatula on kitchen counter:

A pitcher just seems more interesting to me as a utensil holder.

And this "Messina" pitcher I alerted before, is bigger and makes a really nice vase for flowers, esp. in summer. It's more romantic in feeling, brings in that Italian, country house vibe:

While we're still in Italy, I found some nice pizelles in the cookie aisle. Hadn't had those since we stopped going to this Italian bakery/bistro when it changed hands. They used to have these yummy, homemade anise-flavored pizelles.

These BL pizelles I just sampled with my coffee compare pretty favorably. Not as sweet, but that's probably why they recommend on the package that you dust them with powdered sugar! But I like the less-sweet option...

The Big Lots in my area is absolutely horrible. I get ads in the mail with numerous items that peak my interest then travel there to find totally different merchandise...none of which I am interested in.

Everyone complains about the store. I'm sure it won't remain open much longer.

@DREAMON @Oznell Ours used to be really bad, but lately it has gotten much better- The only thing is is that all of the goodies sell out quickly, so you have to be quick!

That's too bad about your Big Lots, @DREAMON . Ours wasn't that great for years, then, like @CANDLEQUEEN , ours got better. They renovated it too, and now it's much brighter and looks cleaner than before.

But I wouldn't say ours is top-notch. There's one about 15 miles over, in a neighboring town, that's always better than ours. They're much more likely to have the newest, better decor and art, pieces that don't ever even show up at our store! I like to swoop in there to check out their inventory occasionally. I just checked online, and as usual, a couple of good looking abstract prints that are available online, are nowhere to be found at our store, yet the "good" one has at least 4 of them, grrr.

never been to a big lots.... but they are building one about 5 min from me.. so i will definetely be going there. it will be a mad house the 1st few months of it opening.. so im going to wait awhile until i go..

update from earlier on them building a big lots real close to me...well i went yesterday, and i really like it! i spent almost 100.00 and it will be my go to store for everything. Love it! I was going to go back today lol but i cant, i will just spend more money...

Love Big Lots candles. Much more economical than those overpriced Slatkin candles.

I've recently discovered Big Lots and really like it. They seem to have many different things from the other stores but I do find it to be hit or miss. But during the holidays they really go all out and you can get some great bargains.

As always, Oznell, I enjoy your buys at Big Lots! I do go to this store around the holidays because there are always surprises at a great price. The candles and pitcher are very appealing!

Years a go I bought a light up Charlie Brown in a costume at Halloween from Big Lots. It is now standing on a table in my living room as part of my fall decor!

Your post has given me motivation to pay a visit to the Big Lots store in my area !!! Enjoy your buys!

@spiderw, interestingly, this is a thread from early summer that someone 'refreshed', but the pitchers I found back then still seem to be in stock at Big Lots. At least, except the Fresh Roasted Coffee candle. It sold out immediately, and even though I've been back several times, they don't seem to have it back in stock. I loved that coffee scent!

I just checked the Big Lots website and the coffee candle shows available there, and it's on sale for $5.99!

We have BL in town and I always enjoy going there. I LOVE their medium weight shower curtain liners, so I always grab some when I see them in stock. That's what I just went in for, sadly they were out, but I did come home with $20 worth of snacks! Not that I needed the snacks, but sometimes I like to treat myself!

I've seen your posts before and picked up several items based on your recommendations, so thank you @Oznell

Wow, @Catlady Nicole , thanks for the alert. That is great to know the candle is still on the website! It is so yummy and would be a good fall scent. Yes, we usually have to leave with a few snacks in tow as well. Their various popcorns, and hubby MUST have some of their exotic dried fruit...

@spiderw, that would be nice, ha! But no go, since then I doubt they'd want the occasional bad review that might come their way from me. Some of these retailers need some tough love in the form of a scathing "pan".....

Sadly many continued to be duped by Harry Slatkin and pay overinflated prices for candles.
