I love everything but the light fixtures.

I would have used a fixture that resembled an old lantern.

OH HONEY, your "dated" and MY "dated" sure are two VERY DIFFERENT THINGS!

I LOVE "dated" I COVET "dated".

My previous kitchen, which I miss to this day, was literally walking into a knotty pine box with a red brick fireplace taking up one whole corner.

Ceiling, cabinets, walls, trim- EVERY INCH was knotty pine. The floors were originally a very dark tile, and we replaced that with large mottled gray and white block.

The neighborhood became so tight that parking became difficult, then more and more difficult, more and more houses becoming rentals with illegal numbers.

DH found a mid 50s ranch that was being sold by the family who'd built it. I still expect Lucille Ball to look out the window when I come up the circular driveway.

DATED! HOME SWEET HOME!

This is NOT a dated kitchen at all. It seems quite modern to me, more like Modern Farmhouse look.

I love the windows. I love light,and being able to look outside, so this is perfect. I do think it looks a bit unbalanced without cabinets on top. While it's really nice it's not quite my style.

It's nice if you're into the farmhouse look. It's a design that I've not embraced.

I don't care for the ceiling, but otherwise it looks like a farmhouse kitchen that is so popular these days! Not really my style, but it does look nice!

love the kitchen and believe its deliberate use of long-loved concepts makes it appropriate to our time. I do think it has some characteristics that would not translate well into every house.

I think they are trying to create that real farmhouse look and for the real farm look, the lanterns would have been a bit English looking, instead of rural America. Or, am I wrong?

A gas lanterns would be much more correct than a fixture which is very industrial in design.

If you think about it, lanterns and candles were used before electricity.

Most clearly a difference between 'dated' and rustic or weathered. To me, it certainly has a weathered, rustic vibe but is not dated. While this isn't a kitchen I'd choose for my own home, I like the overall look, though not fond of several elements.

I like it very much. As the "distressed" style to it somewhat but certainly not dated.
