House down the corner from me look exactly like that....from the outside. I don't know what inside looks like. It's so pretty.

I've heard the outdoor porches such as this one used to be referred to as sleeping porches .

Back in the day before any invention of air conditioning , when it was hot /humid during the summers people would pull beds to sleep on the open porches .

Guess, it was either the heat inside the house or mosquitoes out on the porch.

Beautiful!!!!!!I don't however like the brick in the kitchen, or the light fixtures, or the ceiling fan in the living room, but otherwise a gorgeous home with a few tweaks, and I would move right in....Actually I would move right in and tweak later! lol.....

It's nice. I really don't like those plants on the porch, ferns? Something is off though with the brick, it doesn't seem to go with the white siding of the house. I love it in the kitchen though which to me is the nicest room. Living room is workable but the furniture and curtains are coming through as orange on my monitor, so that's a no.........the bathroom is very pretty but again, I always shy away from large windows and tubs being anywhere near each other, LOL. Guess I am not a huge fan after all.

@LindaSal We're all different and there's no right or wrong... I love the look of the hanging ferns, it's something I've done often. I also like the juxtaposition of the old looking brick and the home's siding, though, pretty as I find it, I'm not sure I'd have chosen white... The living room is reading more golden than orange to me, but I agree, it needs tweaking and I am SO tired of people sticking a palm or fern frond in a vase and calling it decorative... As for the bath, I believe it sits adjacent to a private terrace and there are roller shades at each window and door, but yes, the immediate look is one that appears at first glance to lack privacy... I was curious too about a door leading outside from the bath, but I guess it works for whoever lives there...

@skatting44 I think a sleeping porch is a screened in porch. At least back in the hills where I come from. Gotta keep them skeeters at bay or they'll carry you off!

I love houses with grand porches and lush ferns hanging between the columns. I wonder, however, how much use they get out of that gorgeous patio when it's so hot and humid to be outside?

My Grandparents had sleeping porches in their home. A fairly large one on the first floor that was totally screened in in summer and windows put up in the winter. Grandma slept in that one and Grandpa slept in the one on the second floor which was much smaller. They were both enclosed.

My childhood home originally had an upstairs sleeping porch that was fully enclosed with drywall ect and converted to a big bathroom . We also had a big downstairs porch similar to this one where the 1st floor windows could be opened to walk out on the porch . Really loved the grand old house but it was so cold during the winter and large windows upstairs would rattle when we had strong winter storms. Do like the sunny yellow in the living / sitting room . Maybe the bath opens onto the brick patio .

I love the exterior. I've always wanted a huge porch. I like the hanging plants and the photo of the garden seating area. My favorite room is the kitchen. I like the island, cabinets, & brick, but I'm not fond of the range hood or the floor. I like the cabinets & floor in the bathroom. If the bath also has a shower, that would be great. I would need window coverings though. I'm not loving the furnishings in the living room so I would have to make more changes there.

@Sooner I guess my idea of a sleeping porch is more like yours, enclosed in some fashion to keep out the bugs... The breeze, if any, comes in, but the bugs stay out !!

@stevieb - I grew up in Georgia, and I am salivating over these pictures. I'll take it just the way it is - but I would probably take the hanging ferns down. They're blocking that beautiful and necessary porch ceiling fan !

Lovely home on the outside but I could do with less hanging baskets. The bathroom is beautiful, and great kitchen. The sitting room or living room is just okay for me -- too matchy matchy. I absolutely love the courtyard with the lime green love seat. It's so private just the way I like it.
