Our home is on the Bay. I am in my office which has all glass sliders that lead to a pool and large deck. Just beyond and looking down is the beautiful Bay with boats, ducks, heron, and jetskis going by occasionally. This weekend we will have many more boats and action for the Memorial Day Weekend. At night we can see all the lights from the Atlantic City Casinos to the right and Long Beach Island to the left. It is a beautiful view if you are a beach/ocean person ...and we are

I'm sitting at our desk in the family room, which is partially underground in a split level home. I have a window to the right of me (and the left) and I have often noticed the great view out this window. We live in the country, and the window frames a view that would make a picture or painting from centuries past.

You can see the edge of our pond with the rickety dock jutting out into the water. The far edge of the pond is encircled with cattails. Just beyond the pond (actually across the road, but from where I sit, you see no road) are horses and cows grazing in the field. Beyond the field is a lush wooded area. Every few minutes an Amish buggy goes by.

There are no power poles, no road signs, no clue as to what century we are in. Looking out, you'd maybe guess the mid 1800's when a buggy passes.

I love this view, and while we have nice ones out other windows, this is my favorite.

What does your favorite view from your house look like?

Your view sounds so lovely. I look out over Puget Sound at the Seattle skyline. The space needle is a bit to the left and a small Island (Blake Island) is to our right. It's really neat especially as the sun rises over the skyline in the a.m. ~ but I am really partial to what you described and would love to look out over your view every day.

I've never been one to like city living, but looking out at the skyline of a beautiful big city is breathtaking to me. I'm always amazed at how many people are there and how much is going on in such a relatively small space. With my view, I know exactly everything that is going in inside of it. With your view, there is mystery and wonder at just how much is happening, who all is there and all the things they are doing.

Wouldn't it be fun to experience living in many different "views" throughout one's life?

I have already shared the view of my pack yard. The view out of my dining nook is a view of a park. It is mostly quiet with people walking mostly with their pets. The joy is in the early evening seeing young children playing sports. Unless I open the window I don't hear them but seeing them having such fun reminds me of the times I shared with my sons taking them to park to park as the played their sports. Such fond memories.

My view is not nearly as wonderful and exciting as a view over Puget Sound, or a city skyline, or down to a pond on a quiet morning, but for the most part, I'm happy with it. Looking out my French doors in my sunroom, my kitchen window and also the big window in the room where my computer is would be my favorite views. They just look out to my average size backyard, rimmed with enough bushes and trees-large and small-to block out the neighbors. It's an ever-changing view, starting with daffodils, redbud trees and forsythia in the early spring, then tulips, dogwoods and azaleas. The azalea blooms are gone, and now my huge rhododendron bush in the corner of my yard has been blooming for the past week. I have a small retaining wall behind my patio with a planter bed of azaleas, and now the blue campanulas (or blue bellflowers) are coming up in between the azaleas. Those will bloom for several weeks. I usually fill the planter bed above the retaining wall with annuals when the time comes. Then in the summer all my crepe myrtles (pink and lavender) will bloom in the front and back yard. I need to work on getting more color in the fall.

The best part of this view is that I'm close enough to the yard and the ground so that I and my cats can watch all my little chipmunks, squirrels, and birds run around, play, and look for food (which I feed to them on a regular basis--it attracts them close to the house). I also have a pecan tree which is huge and too close to the house, and I have it trimmed every few years, but I don't have the heart to take it down because of the squirrels! These views are also the favorites of my cats, because they have their places in front of the windows and doors to watch the world outside!

I'm sitting in my TV room looking out the back window (I have 6 over 9 windows) that means they go from ceiling to floor so I get a full view. The leaves came out in full force while I was visiting daughter in another state. I came home to a jungle in my back yard. Everything is either in bloom or close to it.

When I opened the front door yesterday there were 4 baby deer and a Momma dear standing in my front yard. They aren't afraid of people (sad really). They just stood there and eventually walked down my front yard (I have 1 acre of cleared land) across the street (dead end, no sidewalks, no need for them) and to my neighbor's yard.

It is beautiful here today. The sun is coming through the trees. I can hear and see the squirrels scampering around everywhere. My orange cat (Billy) is laying on the couch next to me. My other cat (Katie) who is black and white (yes, brother and sister) is sitting in her basket in the front bay window watching the birds.

I have the big flat screen TV on (almost always, due to needing noise in house). I hate leaving the house. Everyone is in such a hurry, ready to run you down because they think where they are going and what they're doing is more important than anything anyone else is doing.

I don't work (haven't worked in over 40 years). I will go to the dentist and then over to my oldest daughter and my youngest grandson (he's around 19 months old). I'll visit for a short time and then come home and run errands.

It's a good life. I love watching the birds on the back (unscreened part of the porch). I have lots of bird feeders out there. Sometimes Billy sits in the part of the double sink where I've provided a little box for him to sit.

I have a large screened back porch. I seldom sit out there. No need. I live alone and I find that boring. I want to sell this house (owned it for years) and buy two houses.

So, that's my world. I have a friend (another widow I eat with sometimes).

I wish I could find a friend I could travel around the US with. I need to find someone who loves being with people (like I do) and has the money and time to travel.

Know anyone who lives in the Northeast

DH has planted so many beds of beautiful flowers - the one just outside my office is a bed of about 30 to 35 red knockout roses. They are in full bloom right now and the sun hitting them this morning makes them glow.

Behind them is a mass of trees, all green and shiny with their new spring leaves. And there are Camellia bushes between the two areas that have just finished blooming. SOOO pretty out there. Bird feeders all around, with lots of suet, and dozens of varieties of diners. Some just passing through on their way back North, and a few who will remain here. Woodpeckers seem to outnumber everyone else.

I do have a crow - he was a young one born last year I think - who comes every day at 7:00 in the morning and 5:00 in the afternoon for bread with peanut butter, and sometimes table scraps. He sits in the trees outside and screams until I come out and deliver the merchandise. Quite a character. Last week, he brought in a friend (or mate), and now they both come, but at different times. Looks like we're in for some little crows soon. Last summer there were five crows who came together, but only this one guy stayed.

The tomatoes that didn't get eaten by the bunnies are looking good.

Not looking so good is my butterfly bush. I've been waiting to see if it will sprout any leaves but I think our hard winter killed it.

I can see a neighbor's newly-planted corn fields, his silo and barn.

Well, I live in a 1960's PLAT, so my view out the front and side windows is of my neighbors. They do keep their homes nicely landscaped and most of my neighbors are wonderful folks so it is a nice community view.

My backyard is fenced in with a 6 ft privacy fence. I have a couple of beautiful weeping everygreen trees, a couple of dwarf flowering trees, my veggie garden (just starting so not much to look at) and a couple of flower pot clusters. I have an above ground pool that during swimming months is always full of happy laughing and squeeling grandchildren (BEST VIEW EVER).

Occasionally, I have a view of my nosy neighbor across the back who regularly gets up on his roof to clean it off. He's a nasty old man who likes to call the city to report any of his neighbors who aren't keeping their yards and homes to his liking and at least with my 6 ft fence, he has to work extra hard to spy! Oh, when I do see him spying I always make a point of going out back and letting my dogs out...I wave hi and they bark and bark and bark because they can't stand him!

We are in our camper for the summer. Our view from our campsite , which sits high on a hillside, is of a small town below that was built by a Shaker community - then , because they took a vow of celibacy soon disappeared, and was taken over by a Mennonite community. There are still many of the original log cabins and lovely old homes there. A beautiful church with a steeple that rises high above the rest of the town and rings out the hours 24/7/365. Between our campground and the town is a large creek and trees line either side, and an old bridge that is currently being rebuilt.

Between our campground and the town is a large creek and trees line either side, and an old bridge that is currently being rebuilt.

HH, you have to wonder just what those Shaker's were thinking, don't you? An all celibate community won't last long! I'm sure there is some really interesting history behind it, though.

I don't have a beautiful lushly landscaped yard. Water is precious here so it's xeriscaped with gravel and a new tree I had planted 5 years ago plus an apple tree. It's surrounded by a cinder block fence, also a local fashion which I find extremely ugly and institutional (like a prison). I do have a long bed of day lilies along the back of the house. I do have a large covered patio which I furnish like a room in the summer with carpet, comfy chairs, a fountain, hanging baskets, lanterns, wind chimes...all the usual stuff. I have a nice view of the Sandia Mountains across the valley on the East side of Albuquerque. Every night at sunset for about 10 minutes they turn a deep mauve color. I try to make a point of being where I can see it. Because there is no water around, I have no mosquitos or other annoying insects so I can sit outside unmolested. I'm often outside until well after dark because it gets so cool and comfortable.
