I have seen pennies as well as other coins used as a bar top in home basements, but never a floor. My brother had such a bar top similar to this in his home many years ago.

If this becomes a trend, than this will increase the change shortage. Where I live vendors have signs all over to pay with credit or debit or exact change . I do not know if the change shortage is true - is it due to vendors not wanting to handle money due to covid or idoes the Gov not have real money to buy metals to press more coins ....

@skatting44 There is a shortage of change . It seems people have been hoarding change and not using it because they are ordering on line and using CC. No one wants to carry it around.

We have several five gallon containers full of change. Some with just pennies and some with " silver." The last time we cashed it in, we had over $2000 worth.

I would cash it in right now, but my credit union is not allowing anyone in without an appointment. You have to use the drive in...so we will wait. Maybe they will offer a bonus if the shortage gets too bad. The last time we got $1.05 for every dollar we cashed in.

Can you imagine if you sat a young child there, maybe 7 or 8, and asked them

how many pennies they could count before they got exhaused?

From a practical point, NOPE. I can't imagine cleaning those floors. I think the dirt, etc. would be awful in all the cracks btw the coins. Not only that, but the style is not appealing to me.

I can appreciate the creativity but as @sceniccoast posted, I can’t imagine cleaning that floor, especially, in an entryway.

From what I understand, this type of flooring requires some sort of sealant, like an epoxy poured over it. That way it would be easy to clean, but I would think extremely slippery! It's an interesting idea (and design), but probably not practical for every day living.

I also think it's an interesting focal point but certainly not something I would want or do. I know some friends who did this to their kitchen countertops (no design though). I didn't care for the look whatsoever.
