NEED ADVICE FOR MY BEDROOM

This is my dilemma,my bed is a full/queen and I currently have a bedspread, shams and matching skirt. I have decided to get rid of all of it and purchase a comforter which I have never had. If I purchase a full/queen comforter it won't cover the bottom of the bed. A king size will do the trick, however my daughter said it will be too big.

Now according to the dimensions shown for a king sized one, and after measuring the bed I think it will work just fine. Never having had a comforter as I mentioned I want to be sure before I start removing and replacing things. Any and all recommendations will be appreciated.

Good morning @Lindsays Grandma . First, you should know that not all measurements for king size bedding are the same. The right size for my king was 90 x 100 inches in a comforter or quilt. Some sizes are larger than that so be sure to check dimensions when buying.

You could measure the size of your queen bedspread and use that to scale up to the size of the king you want. Try to buy somewhere you are comfortable with the return policy. HTH. S aka Lilysmom

Get one you can wash in your machine. That's what I care about. (Do you have pets?) is the reason I mention this. If not. just be sure the comforter covers you at night.

I don't care if it covers the sides now.

I think a bedskirt to cover the bottom would look better than buying a larger comforter. If the comforter is too large, the corners will drag on the floor at the foot of the bed.

Below are examples of using a tailored and ruffled bedskirt with a comforter.

@Lindsays Grandma -The first thing I thought of was would you feel the weight of this comforter pulling you down on the sides while in bed? That sounds strange but I can just feel that happening.

I have bought a king comforter several times for my queen bed with luck. Just wondering around stores while my DD was trying on clothes and they worked. Something I liked at a good price. If doing mail order which I did for years, many years ago, I measured first.

I have a bed on blocks, made to raise the bed so storage bins can roll under easily, the king does not cover this too well on all sides!

This is what I do. I don't like the legs of the bed or anything that I have stored under my bed to show so I have a neutral bedskirt covering the bottom.

I have a queen sized bed and use a queen comforter.....larger would just look odd in my opinion.

I haven't used a bedspread for decades now but I do change out the comforter to a lighter blanket in the summer. However I like using pillow shams which add a nice finished look.

Yes it will fit but the weight might be a little much for your feet. I did that and the comforter hung over so far that it pulled my feet down at night drove me bonkers. I got rid of it and researched till I found a Queen blanket. Not a full/Queen a true sized Queen one. Good luck and enjoy changing it up. 👍❤️

If you live like I do in Arizona a comforter is pretty much just for show and I never use it for warmth even in winter so I don't care about it being heavy at night. I just fold it up at the foot of the bed each night and use a lightweight throw if I get cold. Make sure it's washable. I don't use a bed skirt because they just get dusty and dirty and are a pain to take off and put on again. Keep it simple.

One thing about a large comforter is that it will have square corners that will drag. Good way to trip. A bedspread has rounded corners.

I was so tired of bed skirts and queen covers that were too small I finally went to a box spring cover and use a king comfoter or coverlet. It fits pretty well on the two queen beds I have in my home.

I've used king sized comforters on our queen sized beds for years and they've worked out fine. We sleep with them and a queen sized comforter wasn't large enough to keep us covered while we slept. I still have a bed skirt because, even though the comforter extends past the mattress, it doesn't go so far that it covers the space under the bed. The bottom corners are rounded on our comforters. If you decide to get a down comforter, make sure there are enough squares/sections to keep the down in place. As another poster noted, get one you can wash. Good luck!

Actual measurements of items the same size can really vary !

i have had success with king size on queen size beds.

Once a spread ( not comforter ) was about six inches too long to be safe so I shortened the one side farthest from view....I actually hand stitched it after pinning it. It even looks great from the far side !

As one poster said, be aware of the return policy just in case the fates are against you !

I have a queen size bed, and buy king size bedspreads and comforters for the best side coverage. I've never had a problem.

Have a custom duvet made - decide how wide and how long to cover the sides of your mattress. You can buy very nice down or synthetic duvet fillers at many places .

I had a custom one made a few yrs ago . To figure out what dimensions I needed , measured my mattress side depth added ot to the measure ment of the width of the top and did the same for the length. I choose my own fabric . You can have emblesshments such as a ruffle , piping or plain edge. I had string ties added inside to each corner to tie the down comforter in place and had a zipper added at the end inseade of usual buttons

I have a full bed and use a full/queen comforter. It covers quite a bit, but not around the bottom of the bed. A king would be way too big, so I use a bedskirt. It's the same color as the comforter so it sort of blends in. I guess it all depends on whether or not you have a platform/box spring and what you're okay showing. I don't want anyone seeing the platform or under my bed, so thus, the bedskirt.

Between the house and the cottage I have six beds. I at least got smart and made all of them queens. Then I started buying quilts and blankets and one comforter. One thing I forgot to take into account, the beds are different heights. So some of the kings I bought for high beds end up dragging on the beds that are only on metal frames. And some of the winter fair aisle blankets don't come down far enough on the sides of the higher beds. What I should have done was measure and write down what I needed for each bed. This idea of making every covering interchangeable just didn't work out.

I also have a full size bed. Purchased a comforter (king size) and it worked well. However, a comforter that size is just too difficult to clean. Had to take it to a laundromat as it was way too big for my washing machine. Left it there and an employee washed and dried it for me for about $20 - $25. She said it took forever to dry!

Now I've purchased a quilt, actually it was a TSV on QVC several months ago, and I'm so much happier with it. For my taste, a comforter is just too big and bulky.

I've always had a queen sized bed and always used a king comforter or bedspread.

It's not too big on my bed because I have a deep pocket mattres, 6" topper and a featherbed on top so it's about 19" high in total.
