I was wondering if any of you have any experience with IKEA kitchen cabinets and countertops. I absolutely love the look of them and have read excellent reviews, but I'd love to hear some first hand experience. thanks

I have some teak cabinets with doors made by another company but using those European hinges. I've found them to be very flimsy and easily broken.

I'm still waiting for the Ikea catalog that I requested last March. Too bad I already redid the kitchen last summer!

I don't like the idea of having dust catchers with cabinets that don't reach the floor, but I haven't heard anything good, bad, or otherwise about the quality.

We redid our kitchen three years ago and used Ikea cabinets. I am very pleased with them. We purchased the white Lidingo. If you do not mind putting them together you can really save money. Ikea has a reputation of having somewhat cheap furniture. But their cabinets are not at all like that. They are very well made and once they are mounted they look just like the more expensive cabinets. If you decide to go with Ikea just be prepared to make several trips back to Ikea. It seems like when you are putting them together you need this or that so back to Ikea you go. My husband and I met another couple who was remodeling with Ikea cabinets and they also laughed about many multiple trips back.

We also purchased our countertops through Ikea. We went with the Corian countertops. Everything arrived exactly on schedule and our installers were great. They did the installation in just a few hours and everything looked just perfect. We were very pleased.

If we were to remodel again we would, without a doubt, purchase from Ikea.

Just did one with appliances and all in a rental we own. Seriously I have such kitchen envy...the Ikea kitchen is awesome. Counter tops come from local third parties ....ours was awesome and it came out perfect. It's a not tiny galley kitchen, we bought everything during a sale, they designed it for us and I think we spent a hair over $7000.

The cabinetry endures. Did a wall unit in my daughter's room as a baby.. wardrobe, floor to ceiling shelves etc. She's 30 and using pieces in her own place. I turned her old room into a huge closet using Ikea closet system several years ago. It's fabulous!!!

We are putting in lindigo - the one on tv ads - in an apartment we rent out. My husband is a carpenter and he's happy with the quality. It IS a bit of a task putting it together and there are a few things that need to be cut, but all in all it's worth it. Once you put something of theirs together you get the hang of it.

If you do decide to do it, definitely go into the store with a plan and dimensions and have one of the designers help you. Plan to spend several hours. We ordered ours during the 20percent off and did a small Lindigo kitchen with all new stainless steel appliances for $3800. Not including counters.

Yes, we've done a kitchen out of IKEA cabinets. We have living quarters above a garage up north behind our cottage. (overflow for guests) We did a kitchenette and it turned out so beautiful. What really enhanced its look is we got granite countertops. My dh is very handy so installing and putting these together was a breeze. We are thinking of downsizing our house here and move into a condo in a few years. I already have dreams of tearing out the (probably) old kitchen and redo it with IKEA. My IKEA store is only 20 minutes away and they are enlarging it this summer! Its the only store in my state and I'm so very glad its close!

Thank you all for your input!

I live only about 30 minutes from an Ikea so going back and forth wouldnt be an issue. Also they offer a service that a kitchen designer comes to your house and measures, plans out the space with you and gives ideas, then they print out exactly what you need to order. You can use their installation service (my husband is NOT handy). The contractor i am considering already said there will be extra for labor for all the time it takes to put together, so I will have to take that into account.
