WARM NEUTRAL ROOMS

I'm still interested in the mix of cool and warm neutrals. But here I set myself a little challenge to find warm neutrals in online rooms; it's still a bit of a challenge! While bright white has moved ahead of gray, the more muted, warmer neutrals are still hard to find online. Most (not all) of these rooms came up with me doing a search for "beige rooms".

Right now, with wintry winds and snow on the horizon, warm neutrals just seem cozy to me.

Love that creamy beige stone fireplace.

Going back to chocolate brown is intrepid! This modern treatment of brown is fresh-- I think b/c of the pairing with off-white and lively greens.

Again and again, designers are making the palest beiges "new" , by pairing with black.

OK, wood is a warm neutral too! This cabin has yummy textures.

Admittedly, this one below is avant-garde. Just had to throw it in. Even though I couldn't live there, I just like to look at it for the 'audacity'. It's the Paris apartment of French designer Jean Louis Deniot. He's the one who consistently mixes cool neutrals like silver and gray with warm ones. I like that peek of that modern hanging lamp through the doorway in his bedroom.

Here's his tiny kitchen. Hammered brass cabinetry certainly is a 'warm' contrast with that heavily veined marble...

This snug bedroom with lighter and darker beige striping also has livening touches of a sort of apricot-y shade.

Again, beige or khaki and black is one of my favorite neutral combinations, and the striking black and white photography another pleasing element...

This creamy pale beige kitchen (I think it came up on the "beige" search, but here it looks more cream or ivory) caught my eye. Look at that beautifully beat up traditional tufted leather chesterfield in the foreground. What a great place to loll in the kitchen! This one was in Sydney, Australia.

Hey, how did this gray room get in here?! I set myself another little test-- to find a gray room that still looked as invitng to me as the warmer neutral ones. I think it comes close, courtesy of the mirror, yummy couch and pillows, and textures of greenery and soft pampas grass. I can't tell if that's a pup or a kitty relaxing atop the couch....

@Oznell Honestly, I don't care for any of them.

Those colors just don't appeal to me at all.

It's interesting how colors can influence our moods.

Regardless of how nice the room looks, living with these colors would be depressing.

That's fine, @Love my grandkids , I don't think the sort of neutrals and combos that appeal to me don't necessarily appeal to others. I've noticed that since the lock-downs and distancing and all that, I have more of a craving for almost 'no-color' rooms!

Not that I ever liked bright color, but I've always liked soft, muted off-shades of blue, green, blush, etc. Still do. My living room walls are pale robin's egg blue, and I never tire of that. But for whatever reason, neutrals represent "serenity" to me now. As long as there is artfulness in the design, and interesting texture, then color is optional. And I experience strong color as a distraction, or too demanding of attention, or something!

While I am more of a color fan, I can appreciate some of these rooms The darker browns warm up the rooms and you can add color with choices since it is a neutral. Many years ago when dark colors were in, I had a wall of navy blue and my sister painted one wall dark brown. Both of us had white walls around them.

Neutrals are always lovely in rooms but I would have to add the colors through furnishings and decor, also window treatments. I enjoyed the different pictures, very nice!

@Oznell I love the neutral rooms! They seem easy to live with to me!
My den where "live" has blackthorn paneling, open beams, fireplace, medium brown leather furniture. Hunting scene oriental. It's cozy.
The living room and dining room are more white and grey with burgundy orientals, much brighter.
My bedroom is more pastels and dusty rose for my handmade poster bed and drapes.
I've redecorated over the years but seem to revert to the neutrals.

I like each and everyone but would not prefer to live, perhaps, in either. I like my 'stuff.' I think we all like our stuff, the reason we chose it or maybe we tire of our stuff and want something new, but we can add little changes, one at a time, but still not lose our basic choices of style and so forth.

I never cared for the grayed rooms and decor. It reminded me of the unpainted sheetrock of the 50s and 60s and the pictures we saw of gray horizons in Soviet Russia. I do not like white walls at all. It is reminsicent of all the homes that were painted contractor white in the 1970s so as not to interfere with whatever decor you might have or choose.

I like warm pastels of any color. Colors that appear to have begun white and had increments of gold, green, taupe or blue stirred in until the desired color was reached.

I went through the red public area of the 1990s and though I loved it, it was easy to tire of it.

I love soft taupes, khakis, wheat, robin's egg blue, beach glass, dry sage.

@Oznell Oh please don't get me wrong. I always always enjoy seeing the photos you post. They are all interesting to me, whether or not they are to my taste!!

I enjoy seeing all the different rooms and houses that you and others post. I'm just very definite about what I like when it comes to home decor!

I could try out the kitchen in photo# 7 with hammered gold cabinets and white marble .

I could relax in Master bedroom photo # 8

The photo# 10 with the stars and Bohemian look with the girls photo on the wall who has a strange eyed look, Well, this photo reminds me of that Tom Cruise & Brad Pitt movie called Interview with a Vampire when Kirstin Dunst played the child vampire .

Oh my, more neutrals... There are a couple of rooms here I like and a number of elements I can appreciate. Like others, one I'm fond of is the cabin. It always goes without saying we should all post what we choose to post. The world of home design is a big, wide wonderful one with room for everything from the proverbial soup to nuts. That said, I am so over a steady diet of overall neutrals right now, especially as conjoined with rooms that are essentially modern-transitional in nature. I just can't get really serious about them at this point. Maybe I will again somewhere down the road...

This thread brought out such interesting responses, some of the best!! By the way, @Love my grandkids , no offense taken at all-- I did want to explain my "rationale" for swinging a bit hard toward neutrals, and your post helped me bring that out. My brain right now is interpreting neutrals as "soothing", and that's what I seem to be most interested in posting, at least a lot of the time....

@1Snickers, am very struck by your rooms, they sound fabulous and like they reflect your tastes perfectly.

Your list of soft colors, @Nonametoday , could be mine as well. I share so much of your aesthetic. I loved your comment about the "gray horizons of Soviet Russia", ha.

A navy focal wall would be so striking, @spiderw , I bet it was quite liveable. If I had enough rooms in this house to experiment with, I'd try a deep color, like maybe a whole room in navy, maybe a study. I can see walls and bookcases in that midnight shade, seagrass rug, white slipcovered easy chairs, and bright brass accents, maybe a starburst mirror....

@Oznell I liked several of these. Both bedrooms appealed to me. I also loved the cream couch (cabin picture) that had some brown colors mixed in with the colored pillows. I did that same thing on my couch this winter only my throw and one of the pillows are kind of a burgundy brown. My burnt orange pillows have a hint of that color in them. It's my best look on that couch yet, especially with our wood ceiling. I may just keep this look year round! I am finding that I like "warm" more than I thought .

I don't dare forget the kitchen. Love everything about that kitchen!

My favorite is the cabin.

I love a neutral room..you can brighten it up with throw pillows in colors or Holiday pillows, plants, other decor. Start with a neutral base and go from there.

I never decorate with bright base colors in furniture, walls, rugs, or drapes...always neutral.

I like some of them more than others but, overall, I'd probably pass on them all. The cabin is probably my favorite but, of course, would have to make some changes.

Personally, I thought the kitchen was bizarre. For starters, I've never seen the hammered brass cabinets before and the verdict is still out on them but I've leaning towards a "NO". I also don't care for the Warn/Cold contrast. I think they're competing against each other and the competition is starting to turn ugly. I've seen this done on home reno/decorating shows before and I've never been a fan of the concept. I'm sure I've seen a few exceptions but can't think of any at the moment. I do love the clean lines and minimalist nature of it though.

Thanks @Oznell for posting these and thanks to the others who do as well. I'm always interested in home decor and find this enjoyable.

My favorites:

I like the greens with the neutrals. The artwork has to go.

I am not a cabin girl, but I really like this one! Love the pops of color.

I could add a few colorful accessories & like this. The animal rug must go.

Nicely done, but I need a few pops of color.
