I love this look and yet a few pieces of more comfortable looking furniture might be most welcomed...

I grew up with this stuff and was never a fan of the style. However, as an adult I can appreciate individual pieces and enjoy incorporating them into a style that is more me (eclectic.)

I think a couple of nice rockers would be nice in front of the fireplace. I'm addicted to rocking chairs the same way some men are addicted to their recliners!

Oh, how I love this style. While I would not use those chairs for relaxing by the fire, I have handmade bow back chairs in my dining room. They are amazingly comfortable. Mine are distressed black, as so many of them are.

Maybe not tops in style now, I have an early American home.

Styles that have been around for a couple hundred years never really go out. At least for me. I do appreciate other styles, as well. Just not for me.

I like this room, too. However, it's clearly for the owner who doesn't want guests to stay very long. The furniture would be very uncomfortable.

@stevieb, I just love this look, It's right up my ally. Maybe a couple of wing back chairs where the (deacons bench ?) is would be more comfy though. Love it !

I like the room and the bench but would definitely have to replace the other furniture.

I want to be able to sit very comfortably in a room.

Not something I relate to. I can appreciate it, but I find it cold rather than appealing.

Absolutely love this.

The Windsor chairs, high back bench, floor, and the upholstered piece on the right looks interesting. Chair or sofa? Outstanding architectural detail. Yes, I'll take it.

I'm trying to picture myself sitting in this room and whether that upholstered piece on the right would be comfy.

Too austere. This room lacks warmth and softness. Not comfortable. It is true to what are surely its Quaker roots. If you like a total lack of clutter, it may be your "thing".

Yes, @stevieb -- those high-backed settees were made to keep the cold from your back as you faced the fire, but they sure weren't easy to sit on without several cushy pillows and throws. Fortunately, we no longer have to sacrifice one comfort in order to enjoy another...

@Silver Fox1 That may be a "tavern bench." It wa meant to be a wall against the cold coming in from the often-opening door, while facing the fire in the tavern. We have one from Wales, but it has drawers under the seat.

I like the architecture of the room. I don’t mind the chairs and bench, but I would need more comfortable furniture if I was going to sit there for awhile.

@faeriemoon The jury is still out for me as to whether or not I'd enjoy a whole room (much less house) of these period type pieces, but yes, a few more primitive pieces mixed in is a look I really like and have implemented in small doses.

@eddyandme I couldn't live without my rocking chairs... I don't know where I'd fall on an autism scale but do know that since childhood, if there's a rocking chair in the room, I'm going to find it...

@PA Mom-mom... Those high backed benches have several different names, 'settle' being among them. They tend to have a very utilitarian look and, like you, I don't think they look partcularly comfortable. There are upholstered 'settles' that might work nicely in a colonial room and provide a little more comfort...

I appreciate the Colonial look but it is too plain for me. Also I would have cushions on the chairs for comfort.
