HOUSE OUTSIDE LONDON

Remember British designer Sophie Paterson? Every once in awhile I like to check back and see what she's doing. Here's another suburban or "exurban" house she did in her signature luxe, tranquil and meticulous style.

The only thing I don't care for much above is the abstract metal room divider. She loves to work with metals, and likes to take "risks" with this kind of interior flourish. Still, not my favorite!

She loves blond woods and marble.

Shimmer.

Her characteristic mix of neutrals creates a cozy envelope. Cream, ecru, copper, taupe.

The little details.

I enjoy the richness of all her finishes. Black marble in a powder room, so striking.

Tea in a casual sitting room.

Blush is one of the soft colors she deploys, fresh yet enveloping in this bedroom...

But this bedroom, in chocolate, copper and khaki, has a masculine feeling... (I love the way she styles her accessories on side tables and night tables).

Pretty, beautifully finished bathroom.

This bedroom must be tucked under the eaves. It looks so comfortable-- would be a tranquil retreat on a wet English morning...

What I like about her style is the effortless mastery of different influences she employs-- hints of Art Deco, soft contemporary, midcentury, and often a bit of 'glam', but always with softness and subtlety. That urbane mix, plus the really high quality materials and finishes, give such a pampering feeling. Let the fog roll in!

@Oznell Not my taste at all. Too sterile, colors are too cold for my taste.

The quality is obvious, but at the end of it all, for me, just another series of too contemporary too neutral spaces.

Not fond of open-planning; I prefer a kitchen with a DOOR.....I cook alone, and don't like anyone watching me (and critiquing).

Meticulous, high-end details. I'm sure I could find something I like very much in each room.

But I find the overall design quite sterile and lifeless, I'm afraid. Too matchy-matchy as well.

I would have loved the bedroom under the eaves, but again, it leaves me with a literal and figurative yawn.

Strangely, I find everything here appealing except for that framed thing over the sofa. Up close, it's a collection of holes. But from a distance it looks like a giant hairball.

Either way, it doesn't need to be on the wall.

Love the clean lines and the crispness but it's softened not angular. Love the all over calmness, all that light is wonderful. I like @Oznell do not care for metal room dividers but I do like the metal design of these. I find the clean lines and softness to the pace very appealing.

While it is not my style, it is very beautiful! The rooms are just exquisite. I do think the kitchen and living room area need a little more color, but it is a very tranquil, serene home!

Absolutely Stunning....this is my kind of house. I would change out a piece of furniture or two and add more color but, overall, I love it.

I think it looks nice, but I prefer more color in my home furnishings. I could probably replace a few things and add a few things to make it work for my style.

Love the rooms, the windows, and the colors.

I would have to switch out about half of the modern decor for something more warm and inviting...just too modern for me.

Interestingly, I'm not unsympathetic to the critique of some that her rooms are too impersonal, too cool, etc.

I used to have that response to what I would call this sort of "international" or perhaps, "luxe hotel" style. And she can sometimes go too far in that direction.

Weirdly, elements of that style, in moderation, appeal to me more now. I can only attribute it to changes in my outlook due to pandemic lockdown. I now crave "serenity", and lack of visual "clutter", more than I used to, ha.

Have always like color, but just brushes with color-- soft, soft, slightly off-shades. And I've never been against neutrals-- they calm me down! "Cream" is a staple for me.

So, although I've always been a fan of quirky style, "flea markety" finds, and a little enlivening boho sensibility, the silky soft 'contemporary, vintage, eclectic' mix appeals as well.
