I really like the window, ceiling and shutters. It is very nice if you like coastal decor, but since I'm not a fan, I would have to strip the room and start over.

Everything about this room is totally boring. The colors are the biggest snooze. I've never seen a room designed with such symmetry or mathematical precision. I'd just like to insert myself and scatter something just to make it more interesting.

@jubilant I do like some coastal decor, but in this picture, I would get rid of the drapes, the rug, and the heavy wood furniture. To me, the room needs to be much more open and brighter.

Do not care for this room, but I do like the Shutters and the starfish Lamps, that's about it. When I think Coastal, I am thinking open, and airy and light, this room is almost stifling to me!

I love coastal decor so I find it pretty. I would get rid of the curtains and just have the shutter type blinds. I would also get rid of one of the chairs and one end table to spread things out a bit.

I'm not a fan of matchie matchie so this room is a big turn off. It needs interest and there is none IMO.

Living on the Bay/Ocean I do like Coastal when it is done well. This is not.

The drapes, the exact symmetry, the dated looking furniture..all just not attractive.

I do like the windows with shutters only.

This room needs a decor do over.IMO

@jubilant I LOVE the whole room. I would get rid of the drapes as I don't care for them but I could live with them if I could have that room! I grew up and spent my first 61 years in Southern Cal. and spent lots of time at the beach so this room is very much to my taste.

This doesn't feel coastal to me, other than the sailboat. It looks kind of drab that I'm surprised it was even featured in the magazine

To me, this has some of the more regrettable, cliche aspects of "nautical" style. Sailboats, shells and starfish all used together with the busy prints and fringe like this, have a kitsch-y quality. Heavy-handed.

"Coastal" can be really pretty when it is airy, with natural elements, tons of natural light, and tranquil oceanic colors, but this room, with its contrived matched sets and 'closed-in' feeling, does not evoke the coast to me...

This looks more like "Coastal Country" and I'm not a fan.
