When I bring out my very small collection of fall stuff, it's sort of earthy and dominated by "wood" stuff. So I've had my eye out for a few pieces of clear glass, to "cool down" and be a counterpoint to all that earthiness...

I was very surprised to find a chunky, thick-walled glass vase at Joanne's like this. It was right in among a lot of flimsier glass vessels, that looked like they would easily break.

You can't really see how nice and thick the rim is here, but trust me! And at that price! Looks many times more expensive. Perfect for some pretty fall grasses, twigs or "bunny tails", real or faux. It is NOT just a boring vase-- in person, looks like something you would find at CB2, or somewhere like that....

I wanted another, streamlined shape for a square votive, but it had to be thick and sturdy. Believe it or not, Walmart had such nice 3 or 4 inch cube vases. Again, though, you have to find the right ones. There were flimsier, thin-walled cubes-- and then there were really nice, heavy ones. The good ones that I found at Walmart, can't remember the brand, but they said "made in Mexico". They were far superior to the others, right there in the same store!

The glass is much clearer than it looks in this photo, by the way-- crystal clear. I have an oversize tea light burning in one of these right now, and it looks so modern and sleek, yet simple.

Haven't seen below in person, but saw these at Big Lots online, and thought, how neat for the season. Of course, the trinket box is wood, which I can't ever get away from! But it's attractive and practical:

Since I haven't seen in person, can't vouch for the quality. But the description says it's wood, NOT "MDF". I really like the carved lines, and blond wood blends so beautifully with other wood accessories...

And this newer item, a burlap-matted, wood framed print of a sort of abstract ocean scape, took my eye. It's muted and moody, and the burlap says "fall" to me:

Can't neglect Christmas! Look at these "natural", distressed wood nutcrackers at Big Lots! These I have seen in person, and they're neat:

And finally, a gem from the Threshold for Studio McGee collection at Target. This is a fun line, for those who like the "fresh-traditional", sort of "California coastal/earthy Boho" stuff they do, but not McGee and Co. prices. The Target line is well priced and offers the same looks.

It's a large (at least a foot across), strikingly primitive, sort of "raw" Paulownia wood bowl. It does make a statement, again much better in person. Couldn't resist it since I don't have any exotic Paulownia wood and love the look. It dominates my coffee table. Like some other McGee stuff, it has just a bit of an old Celtic feeling-- I could see it sitting on a warped old wood table in an Irish cottage by the sea..... And each one has a hole, or knot hole, in the bottom, deliberately! I love that "quirk", but some people would hate that, so wanted to mention!

I would love it as a fruit bowl on my kitchen counter, but it's not food safe. I do not care, that's how much I love this bowl! Infinite variety of decorative things that you could put in it or leave in its bare glory....

Whew, finding bargains, whether I purchase or not, is a fun pursuit.

Isn't it amazing what you can find at Walmart. I've had my eye on these lanterns. Not that I need more lanterns!

I have a square glass vase exactly like the one in your picture but bigger. It is nice and thick and a great quality! Once I used it when hosting a table at a church tea. I decorated with a black table cloth, and red roses cut short but packed closely together in the square vase in the center. Then I had white and black-and-white floral tea dishes. It looked really sleek and classy!

I don’t remember where I got mine. It’s on my bathroom counter all year. I really like the wooden box above.
