Symmetrical Room

What is your opinion?

I think this room is way too symmetrical. While the neat & organized side of me appreciates & likes order, this is just too much for me. Just about everything is the same on both sides of the room. I am surprised they used a few different accessories on the tables in the foreground.

I don’t like the color scheme, furnishings, or accessories either. This room gets a big 👎🏻 from me.

I like some of the elements but don't like the room, overall. And yes symmetry was taken to an unappealing extreme.

I don't like the colors or the funiture placement. I especially dont' like how the dark chairs are in front of the white chairs and the ottoman. I assume they're a part of another grouping.

@wilma I have to agree. Just too much stuff. And the black and gold color scheme? A Steeler's fan might like it.

I don't like anything about this room which is arranged with military precision. Don't like the colors, style or symmetry.

For me, symmetry is not as big a problem as the appalling colors, ugly furniture, and nonsensical furniture placement.

I do like the couch and the blue chairs, but not the symmetry, it is too overboard for me.......The Yellow curtains are too much as well for me.

Ouch, my eyes! I cannot even see the symmetry of the furnishings in the room; all I can see is that bright, blinding yellow!

I think just about all would be well in that room, minus a table or chair, or two, if that yellow would just vanish.

The room is remarkably composed as a display, or a public space. But can you imagine walking into the room, pulling off your sweater and tossing it down, setting your coffee cup somewhere and getting comfortable? I would personally be afraid to even enter the room unless I were twins!

@wilma, I recognized it as a room designed by Mary McDonald, L.A. designer, if anyone remembers the Bravo design show "Million Dollar Decorators" she used to have with Brits Martyn Lawrence Bullard and Kathryn Ireland.

She runs the gamut, a lot of her work I'm not fond of, but some of it is quite good, with lots of classical references, and fearless color.

That said, I don't like the colors she used here! Don't like her as much in this ultra formal, academic, mode here-- I like her in her more "playful" mode....

This room scores high on my "yuck meter."

The abundance of symmetry may be the least of its problems...
