Love the way they opened up the space, don't like the ligting or the table, chairs and stools. Too modern for my taste. Tastefully done by today's standards but just not my style.

This seems mixed up to me: the cabinets don not eude a modern theme, yet the stools and dining area do, imo.

Also, not a fan of all white kitchens; think white cabinets have been exhausted.

I think they did a decent job. I too cannot stand a stool without a back. I like the contrast with the light chairs and dark table. The chairs look like they may be easy enough to wipe down, they don't look like cloth to me. Agreed the white cabinets are not impressive at all.

I had a very similar before in my previous home. I do not care to see the mess I made in the kitchen when my guests and I are eating in the dining room. Also not the biggest fan of the completely open main floor plan. I opened up the doorway between the DR & kitchen to a generous width. Brought a lot more light from the glass doors into the kitchen, while also keeping my budget in check.

To each his or her own . No right or wrong way. A lot depends on the size and and age of the home .

I am laughing about the comments about the stools....because I have them in my kitchen 😂 I'm hardly offended, because they are ugly! We recently did a complete renovation of our kitchen. It's all done, except for stools (we couldn't find any that we both found comfortable). We are using these a temporary fix until the ones we eventually ordered come in. But in the meantime, we joke about these stools (because they are more comfortable than we care to admit). And there will be days when we both look at them and laugh about how ugly they are. Then other days that we look and say "they aren't THAT bad". Anyhow, I got a laugh at the comments on these stools seven been rolling our eyes at for a bit!

That kitchen is roughly probably as big as my own! So from very personal intimate experience, I can say that white REALLY REALLY REALLY (did I stress really?) lol brightens up a small kitchen if you have one!!! I had super dark cabinets mostly original to the home built in the late 50s. It looked like a black hole, uggh! I completely (down to the plaster walls) remodeled late last year and tore down half a wall (it's probably the most open concept I'll ever do which I'm not really a fan of). I have white cabinets, silver handles & stainless appliances, a gray/blue/shimmery pearl white backsplash & accent row, grayish floors, and medium/dark blue quartz countertops. I'm in HEAVEN! I almost slept on the kitchen floor the first night it was totally finished, it is that gorgeous to me! HA!

Also from personal experience, white cabinets are not really hard to clean or look messy. I do stay on top of wiping them down if I'm making something messy or greasy (and use splatter guards on my pans), but no more than normal. I don't live with a family of 10 kids and 5 dogs, if that makes a difference, but I don't see it as any more 'work' in cleaning.

So I'm a fan of this look! I agree about the stools being too modern though. But as ugly as they look, they also look comfy, so who knows?!

What a stark difference!

The first pic only shows a small portion of the kitchen so you don't get a true idea of what it looked like.

The after pic is very nice. However, to me, the cabinets look more of a cream color when compared to the white in the dining area. I'd prefer white cabinets. The stools look like they belong on the "Jetson's" cartoon. While the dining set looks nice, the white wouldn't be practical for a family with kids. I like that they painted the french doors white & changed out the chandelier.

Overall, it's a much brighter area.

The kitchen is done in warm colors and the dining room is done in cool colors. Too much of a clash for me.

Although both rooms needed to be done over, it's a shame they don't blend together better, especially since the open concept.

I prefer the kitchen over the dining area. Don't like *cool* at all.
