Has anyone bought blinds from Home Depot ?

I need to upgrade old vertical blinds on my sliding glass door. Not sure where to turn ... a local blind store or the Home Depot ? I will need professional installation I do not know much about these things. Are vinyl blinds still the go to choice ?

I'd go to a blind shop and ask for a demo of what they have available then go to Home Depot and compare prices for similar products. I bought one blind at HD which I installed myself, and it had narrow metal slats. Now the pleated blinds are popular and very nice.

Home Depot uses subs for most of their services - and sometimes the end results aren't good. Two years ago, I upgraded the verticals on my slider. I called a local company and they connected me with one of their reps in my area. He did a good job - but I didn't particularly like him. Last year I had shutters installed on 2 bedroom windows - and I checked Yelp dot com - and contacted 2 nearby companies that had many 5 Star Reviews. The owner of the company who responded first - measured the windows and then sent his installers (2 guys) - who put up the shutters very quickly - and I'm very happy with the job.

I always choose to hire professionals directly. You could also interview 2 or 3 companies - get a price quote - and see who has the product ur interested in - and who u feel comfortable with.

Home depot charges more usually. Better off to call a blind shop. Many around. They know their stuff, and you cut out the middle man. Home depot is a sub contractor

Another think to consider, if all the bits are in good working order, just buy new slats which you pop in yourself.

@Reever ...I have a friend with a new home with many windows and she had Home Depot come out and measure and then they will hang all the blinds.

BLINDS.COM is who they work with. There is a flat fee for them to come and measure and hang the blinds. I think it was about $200.00

We have a blind company in town. We are a small too. Also.I forgot, Interior decorators also do this, for no fee. They just come out and d it. They are less than homedeopt I know for sure At least one I know is. If they have a been in business for a while they have arelationship with installers and companies. Maybe you could gt two bids

I bought a plantation shutter from Home Depot for a side window. Installer came on time and did a great job.

But for the rest of the windows and patio doors, I always go to Hunter Douglas. Great product and warrranty.

Have always used private shop, but this time went to Home Depot. Needed all 4 windows custom. Ordered Bali products. Installer came out to measure and as soon as they come will have installers out to put up. I thought the price was reasonable.

@Reever ~ When I had plantation shutters, wood blinds, woven blinds and verticals installed, (whole house), I went with Hunter Douglas. Wonderful quality, installation and service. I was very pleased with everything.

No, not blinds, but they were very professional when we went in to replace counter tops with Corian.

I, personally, would not hesitate to go back.

I just today had blinds installed from Lowe's and the price, sales lady and the installer were great . I would not go anywhere else. We did have Blind places come in and give prices . Checked out home depot also . We got Bali blinds and they have sales often on blinds

@shoekitty totally agree with you. Why go to Home Depot when they tack on a charge for getting a installer.

For smaller jobs that you can do yourself they are fine. My husband installed small slat blinds with teeny tiny pinholes in our bathroom that look fabulous. They let some light in during the day when closed but give you total privacy. For big jobs, that you can't do on your own, I would call someone else who specializes in blinds.

2 years ago, I moved into a condo that needed a total reno.

Most of the work was done by Home Depot and their contractors.

I had all the old mini blinds replaced with shades and new blinds.

Home Depot had a deal that installation was $55 no matter how many windows you had.

Loved the guy who came and installed them.

2 years later - still happy.

@Reever I would go to Blinds To Go or some place like that where they come out, measure, do a quick turnaround on your order, and then install. Since you are looking for new blinds, we chose the ones that you just push up from the bottom to raise, and I really like them. We did get ours from Home Depot, with DH installing, and you can tell (not in the best way!). It is hard not to have a gap between windows when measuring for yourself.

I got my shutters from Costco. I think they do blinds also. Great service and good prices. We had a blind company come out (I think it was 3 Day Blinds) and gave us a price for just two windows to start and for one window it was over $2000. I told her she didn't have to quote the other window and to leave and she got a bit huffy. We had a couple of other blind companies come out and their color choices were white, off white and beige for shutters. I wanted wood color. We have since had our entire house done in shutters from Costco and still love them.

I recently replaced blinds and we found Home Depot had the best pricing and best quality for what we wanted. Installation was super easy - even for us folk who have very minimal home improvement skills! I measured the area that I wanted the blinds to cover, then went online and ordered direct from HD. I got free shipping because I had them shipped directly to the HD store nearest me. I didn't have a problem at all! Good luck

Yes several years ago I purchased plantation shutters from Home Depot. The store sent the person who shows you all the window coverings available then when I decided the style I wanted she also measured, and I must say she did an excellent job because the person who came to install them didn't have any problem, and he was so nice and did a beautiful job. I have used Home Depot for several projects, and have never been disappointed.

I had shutters done in my old house and Iim planning on putting in blinds in my new home. I used a blind store. Both times reading reviews, etc. I would not trust Home Depot for such a job.
