I actually prefer the before. It’s not perfect, but it has more personality. The after is too bland and grey. I love the horse artwork!

@wilma I kinda agree with you. I do like the light coming in but I've never cared for long heavy curtains.

I have 6 over 9 windows (almost to floor) and in most of the rooms I have stained wood and wooden venetian blinds some stained some not.

Curtains only in Bay window across it, see through curtain.

@lolakimono LOL, I thought this was going to be another Lisa Robertson thread! Whew, what a relief.

In the first set, I prefer the before but I'd add some touches of bright color. The print in the chairs is interesting but drab.

The first one says dungeon and depressing to me. I like the re-do a lot, but then I love blue and simple. Like me--simple!

I don't care for either one but at least the first one has some visual interest. I would love the "after" if there were some patterned (but not too much) pillows, area rug, window treatments and some artwork on the wall other than a horse pix.

Well, some people like beige and some gray, so I suppose both are okay. I personally like the brighter, more open feeling of the "after" photo, though neither seems particularly appealing.

However, in both versions, did you notice how, in a big room full of furniture, there's not a single place to sit where you could easily set a cup or glass down, or prop your feet up? I can't imagine what in the world I'd use such a room for...it seems designed only for some kind of formal visiting. Shucks, I can't even have beloved visitors over these days!

So I'm kinda thumbs-down on both versions except as photos for a magazine article or 'gram post.

@KaySD That was the first thing that I noticed. I prefer the "after" picture though. I like that they reupholstered the couch (at least I assume they did) instead of buying a new one. I don't like tufted furniture though. If you have pets you have to vacuum them all the time, and still it's impossible to get them perfect. The pictures are hung too high in the last picture.

@wilma I agree. I don't really adore either of them but forced to pick, I'd have kept the first one. They really overpaid their decorator, if they used one. And, if they did, based on this, he or she isn't very talented.
