A WEE SPOT OF "INDUSTRIAL LOFT" INFLUENCE, CEMENT-WISE

This post is going to be about planter pots! Wait a minute, we'll get there. But first, probably not that many people want hard, stylish, polished concrete floors, like in this English cottage above. (I have always loved the look, but my feet start to hurt just looking at them, sigh.)

I love bringing in just a bit of a cement accent into my little abode though. Something about bringing together the rough and the smooth. And small amounts are not "cold", interestingly; they're "earthy".

My little QVC planter that I reveiwed a while back, is "faux", but has the cement look (it's resin!) which is surprisingly impactful for a small piece of decor.

My elephant is sold out, but they still have the cute owl and ram, on sale: (Edited to add: Oops, forgot to put the item #, in case anyone interested-- M65131.)

But the real, modern "industrial loft" type planters are so available, and inexpensive for the big, freshly contemporary look you get.

I think the smallest one of those appealingly rustic ones above, is under $6 dollars at CB2, (which is the "modern" divison of Crate and Barrel.)

I liked the midcentury look of these fluted ones, on sale from "Big Lots" in two different sizes:

The little wood stand is what gives it that cool midcentury modern look, but I took out my pot (for now!) and have just it w/out the stand, on my coffee table with a candle in it-- gives a whole different, eclectic look to the table...

Anyway, I can't have this insanely gorgeous concrete tub (taking a chance on a second floor, ha, must weigh THOUSANDS, esp. when full):

But a planter here and there, yes.

Besides being attractive i.m.o., the ease of cleaning the floor would be wonderful. I have uneven Mexican tile floors that are a real challenge.😕

I like the planters too.

I do like the dining room but wouldn't want cement floors although if I liked it enough I would cover i with carpeting which goes with the style of the room.

I too have a few cement planters in my home. I have a bird planter and a cat planter which I keep out. I also have a rabbit one which is cute. There is nothing wrong with bringing in outdoor things inside, nature is always welcome in my house! The pottery is all very nice, you always have something appealing to me!!!!!

Nice. There's an urban minimalist somewhere in the recesses of my personality. I like it. Besides the greenery, I would have pops of color.

I like everything you posted @Oznell . A cement bathtub isn't at all practical, though, because of the weight (as you mentioned). How in the world would you get it out of your house if you didn't want it anymore? How did they get it in the house?

I like the style of the rooms but the furniture is just not comfortable enough for my liking.

I would consider a colored and scored cement floor with area rugs, but it wouldn't be my preference. Still, I've seen them done and they look fabulous when done right. I have no interest at all in current semi-trends involving concrete counters or table tops and I'm afraid the tub would be a non-starter. I like concrete planters and have owned several in my time but I. do. not. like. modern... So all of mine have been of the more classical variety, similar to those below.

I have a concrete pot for my cactus. I'll try to post a picture tomorrow. I love it but it's really heavy.

Several years ago we looked at a house that had concrete countertops in the kitchen and downstairs bath. It looked good and went well with the rest of the house's interior. They said the homeowners were artists and did it themselves. I can't even imagine taking on a project like that.

I like the pottery but not the rooms or other furnishings. I’m not really into industrial design styles.

In the first room it looks like they did try to add some warmth with the furniture, but the mix doesn't appeal to me. The other rooms are too cold for me. I need more warmth & coziness.
