PALE PINK RENO, VAGUELY HOLLYWOOD REGENCY

Not everyone's cup of tea. So much fun to see a non-cookie cutter approach to this room, which is sort of a sitting room/music room. The pale pink, juxtaposed with the chic black and white marble, the classical touches, and also, the modernity-- very interesting, even if not my style. (One thing I'd have to delete for sure are those funny little white antler things on cocktail table.. they must have a story but, no, no.)

Of course I got snared in by the brooding, black and white photography, starting in the stair hall, with the huge image of.... who? Am chagrined that as a vintage film fan, I'm not sure who the glamour blonde is. Jean Harlow?

Oh, what fun! I picture a wonderful party, Cole Porter at the piano, Noel Coward, champagne flowing, beautifully dressed ladies and men, charming conversations and Dorothy Parker tucked into a corner!

How uninteresting and nondescript it was before! Difficult to believe it was the same person owning it unless they had a dual personality.

Oznell, it's not Jean Harlow, might be Mary Pickford or one of The Gish sisters.

Thank you for posting, I enjoyed it immensely.

It blows my mind that a house with such exquisite architectual details would be decorated as it was in the before picture!

I'm so curious to see what the outside of the house looks like because of the placement of windows in the piano room. I know, some things pique my interest strangely!

I love the pink walls and all the molding. The furnishings and decor , except for the beautiful chandelier and piano, aren't my taste and the rooms lack warmth in my opinion. It is interesting to see these different designs and how everyone's taste is different but their own!

That really works.

The room had lovely details before (those octagonal windows, the French doors, etc.) and she highlighted them very nicely. I love the chandelier. It enhances the theme and is glamorous and elegant.

I can picture a small New Year's Eve party with everyone in 1930s clothing - maybe even mask (post-Covid so not masks for health but for intrigue).

Here's one of Jean Harlow. Not sure if that is her portrait in the stairway.

Whoa, @Somertime and @GingerPeach -- your word pictures are great! Yes, yes yes to Cole Porter, @Somertime! And your candidates for the big photograph are much more plausible than mine-- I sort of thought, well, maybe a younger, softer Harlow before going all-out platinum-- but knew it was an "off"-guess. Thanks, @GingerPeach for supplying the quintessential Harlow picture, which confirms it couldn't be her!

I also can't believe how the mood transformed with the reno. From so pedestrian to something, while not to everyone's taste, is the stuff of fantasy.

I must say I think she did a really good job and I love the pink walls!

What I do not like is the marble floor - makes it too cold and more Like a waiting room for me.

Love the entrance foyer and the animal carpet runner. Nicely done.

Beautiful millwork and windows. But that's an awfully cold/gray shade of pink, and when mixed with all the black, it reminds me of a 1950s bathroom. Not for me.

This is a prime example of why if one is going to hire a decorator one needs to be very discriminating. It's not that this design isn't nicely done or elegant, but, to me, it hasn't much soul, very little warmth or any real clear personality. It's more a matter of the designer having a 'vision' she wanted to actualize and the clients went along for the ride. This makes for an interesting, if a bit too modern for me, stage or movie set, perhaps, but it doesn't say 'home', as far as I'm concerned. I do love the piano and a few of the elements, though the marble floors, pretty as they are, aren't among them. Overall, I'm struck with how anyone could make a pink space look so icy. I do like the pink walls, even if they are a tad more muddy than I would choose.

Something about the light pink, black, white color combo always reminds me of those prints (fabric and wall paper) from the 60's featuring poodles and very chic French women wearing tight skirts and tall hair walking them.

I could get into that room with a different wall color and a more subtle marble floor.

I do believe there is a more *comfy* sitting room at the base of the staircase, straight through the front door.

When they were filming the foyer and stairs, you can see through the french doors, the decorator sitting on a couch and a floor lamp (?) with an ivory silk shade is behind her. Those items are not part of the decor of the 'piano room'.

So the icy, hard marble floor is okay for me to look at-- for a spell, perhaps listening to a little piano music. (Why not dance on it? Ginger would've.) Then retire to the other room and plop down on the couch.

I still can't shake the image of the before picture with probably the ugliest. furniture. everrrr.

Please please please please please tell me I'm not the only one who got nauseous from looking at it!

The architectural details are beautiful! The after is better than the before, but I am not a fan of pink, black, & white as a trio of colors in home decorating. I don’t know that I would’ve painted the piano. I understand they painted it black to work with the new color scheme. The room looks very cold to me.

This is very Old Hollywood to me and I like it for that reason.

I like the shade of pink (and I am not a pink person) and the floors are beautiful.

I would never choose this as my home but boy would I love to go to a party there.

Interesting observations, @Lucky Charm -- now I'm going to have to go back to the video to detect the other room!

I agree-- I think, as in many other cases, in this large house, there would be several comfortable sitting rooms where you could just "plop". So I don't at all mind that there's a room with a marble floor and ostensibly "hard" edges, if it's in furtherance of a vision of beauty. And I do think it's beautiful! @DREAMON made the perfect comment, in that she'd not necessarily live there, but would love to go to a party there! The room creates a sort of "fantasy mood", for me.

About pink-- I could not agree with the designer more about it being a forgotten neutral, and about choosing a slightly 'muddier' or grayed down shade to avoid the "twee" factor. It can be so sophisticated with so many colors, and to me is warmer, more flattering and also, a welcome relief from other light colors that are used so constantly. Looks great with taupes, navy, browns, greens, teals, etc. When I had a pale pink color on my old condo living room walls, on even overcast days it had a quiet glow...
