@candys mine My grandparents house had a very large carriage house adjacent to the property... It was a three stall carriage house and the upper level was a large, open unused loft space... I've often thought how much I'd like to have converted that loft to a residence... The house itself was a smallish town house, and though there weren't many rooms, they were all large... It also had beautiful corner fireplaces, back to back in the living and dining rooms, and pocket doors between the living room and the foyer and between the living and dining rooms... The kitchen was huge by most standards and very light, as all the rooms had large windows... I never thought of it as all that special growing up but, well, as the old saying goes, live and learn...

All three houses that I have lived in as an adult have had an open concept even the tiny row home in the city I lived in before having children. I say yay.

I say Nay. Never have lived in one, but am not a fan - don't like that you can see the messy kitchen from all spots in the house. We had dinner at a house once that was open concept. I could see the messy kitchen the entire time we were eating.

Give me a formal dining room!

You know I like Open Concept to a point, I don't like some of the houses I see where everything is open to each other, but a little Open concept I do like!

I also on the other hand like separate rooms, like Dining Rooms, so really for me I need to see the layout.

LOVE an open main floor.... Minimal walls preferred. You need SOME for a little definition, but not closed in rooms. Much preferred.

I prefer rooms. I could live with a 'great room' type set up that features a kitchen/den/breakfast area combination, but want to be able to close off or open up rooms as I choose. Moreover, if I had my choice, I'd still prefer a living room and dining room (or sun room) in addition to a large less formal space for day to day living.

I say ya!! I love the look and how much space you seem to have instead of boxed off rooms. I am a neat person, so it would not bother me for someone to be able to view multiple rooms at once

Nay. I like the coziness of separate rooms. Separate rooms provide more privacy and "get away" space from family members when we need it. Give me an old house any day.

I think that is my backsplash and countertops in this picture. Too bad my cabinets don't look like this!

Before we downsized a little over a year ago we had a large home with the open concept.

I have to say I loved it. I don't like clutter so for me it was perfect. The only thing I would have changed is I would have made my kitchen even larger and eliminate the dining room. As others have said, waste of space, we never used it except for Christmas. And I could have fit my dining room set in my bigger kitchen So.......yay.

Bedrooms were also upstairs which I prefer for privacy.
