Canopy and 4 poster beds

Do you have a canopy or 4 poster bed?

When I was a child I really wanted a canopy bed! I loved the one my friend had. I ended up with a simple twin bed instead.

When we moved into this house we purchased a wooden 4 poster - no canopy. (I couldn’t convince my DH on the canopy.) The bed was also raised so it sat high off the floor. Loved it for 20 years!

Just recently we decided to switch to a new bed for a different look. We also wanted a lower bed that was easier to get in & out of each day. Getting older. 😱 Our master bedroom isn’t very big so the new bed without posts does help the room look a bit bigger & not so crowded.

I always wanted one too but I had horrible allergies and asthma as a child. My mom wouldn't even allow me to have stuffed animals after I had too many hospital visits from asthma. Now I see how a canopy would be a major dust magnet.

I too liked the look of them when I was little (didn't have one). Now, for us, it wouldn't work, they are just not our style.

I don't have either now. Growing up, I did have a four poster but no canopy. I like traditional beds, though right now my bedroom features a suede-like, tufted headboard only. As for posts, I like them but prefer shorter posts or even more traditional beds without posts. I'm not sure I could sleep in a bed with a canopy let alone one with curtains surrounding the entire bed... Just never appealed to me...

No, although growing up I wanted a canopy bed....I do like 4 poster beds they are very pretty to me!

No, I never wanted one but I have always loved trundle beds where you pull out to have another bed. My children had one and my granddaughter has one now.

I never liked headboards but I have a sleigh bed now which I love. Reminds me of Christmas🎄🦌

My beds are all original old Victorians and have huge headboards with lots of carvings.

I have both walnut and oak, and they are strong and sturdy.

They look very beautiful and are not as complicated as a canopy or four poster, although I do like those styles as well.

Yes, I have a mahogany Chippendale 4 poster and a half tester. For those not familiar with half testers, it has two tall posters at the headboard with shorter canopy and low posters at the foot of the bed. My canopy is 15 inches.

The canopy on the tester is a dust collector that I must frequently remove and clean. Full canopies are beautiful, but glad I don't have them.

The posters on both beds are narrow, so they don't overwhelm the rooms.

Both are exact reproductions, one an antique, so I don't plan on replacing them.

We have a four post bed made out of maple. It was a special order. It's lovely and not too high or too low. I'm a lighter wood girl so my dressers are made out of maple too

You can see I have an old house. This is a mahogany bed. I agree with one poster, I don't like bed hangings either.

I had a canopy bed as a kid and teen.

I no longer like any posts at all around a bed. It makes it much harder to make the bed and I like a clean airy look personally.

No, I had bunk beds as a child but wanted a canopy bed. I haven't seen a canopy bed in years but I always thought they where so pretty. But I have a king poster bed now.

I like four poster beds. I wouldn't want a canopy now, too much more to keep up with, but I've seen some really pretty ones.

No to both, and not a fan of either.

When teacher daughter was young and ready for a larger bed, she really wanted a canopy bed. Both of the girls bedrooms are just too small for a bed that seems to take up the entire room. She wasn’t happy, but she got over it.

I also knew that canopy frame would be something for her, and her sister, to climb on. As an adult, the only time she ever mentioned wanting a canopy bed as a child, the second part of her sentence was “I wanted to climb the bed posts and hang by my knees on that top rail!”

We have a four poster bed, with shorter posts. Our bedroom is Early American, so it fits.

Our DD had a canopy bed growing up.
