Round Rooms

What do you think about rooms that are round or have curved walls?

There’s a house nearby that is completely round. It’s been there since I was a child. I always wanted to go inside and see what it looked like.

My house is all straight walls and sharp angles. Does your house have any curved walls?

I like the use of the curved wall space in this kitchen.

It's certainly a softer armosphere. Wall decor could be an issue. No curved walls at my house except for exterior patio hardscape. My home is open concept, which helps eliminate closed-in sharp angles. I realize not everyone likes open concept.

Visually, I like it. I would have to live in it to see how furniture placement worked. I wouldn't want to have to buy furniture to fit the shape of the room.

I have three rooms with round walls. Like the first one pictured, the round walls are windowed walls.

The house across the street from us is round. In fact we call it the round house. Didn't really know the people who lived there, neighborhood is pretty private. They sold the house this year and I saw the inside on the realtors website. Was very nice.

They are all beautiful rooms. Would be fun to decorate, with a blank check of course.

I like the round rooms but, for the most part, I think it would, or could, be a nightmare to furnish. But then.... I'm so OCD about uniformity, symmetry, etc. LOL!

I do like round or partially curved rooms if they are part of a turret, as in a vintage house, Edwardian or Victorian.

As someone who loves all things "architecture", I'm trying to recall the folklore I've heard about this. I think one ancient old wives' tale was that living in (I assume, exclusively) round rooms, could induce insanity! I definitely don't need anything new pushing me over the edge, so will abstain, ha.

Just as fanciful, is the old tale that round rooms are a way of rebuking the devil, since supposedly the devil likes to lurk in corners, and of course with round rooms and curves, he'd be deprived of that...

Both these tales sound to me like they have their origins back in the mists of medieval times...

I love these! We also growing up had a round house nearby and it is still there, would love to go inside sometime-it is very small though, so I can't imagine how the rooms flow...These pictures are gorgeous!

Initially, after reading the name of the thread, I was not sure I would like it. The concept was somewhat foreign to me, but I LOVE these rooms! Although, I don't think I could ever live in them, they are visually appealing.😊

A few years ago, some friends and I were on vacation at the Texas coast and there was a home for sale that had an open house and for fun we checked it out, it was a round house----very unique and interesting.....

I really like these rooms.....

I didn't think I would like them but those are all so pretty and cozy-I like them all very much!

In Cape May they had a several "A-Frame" houses, just like a triangle.

They were interesting but also small.

I don't know if I'd like to live in one but interesting to visit.

********** Your post reminded me of something that I hadn't heart in a long time. There was a new church built not too many miles from where we lived. I was about middle school age. I heard someone ask somebody at the church, "Why did they build it so round"? The reply was:

"so the devil couldn't corner them"!

I love pic #1. It's very pretty & bright with loads of natural light. Looks so peaceful & soothing.

I don't care for the other 3 pics. I've seen a few round homes. Rustic looking on the outside. I'd need to see the inside though. I wouldn't consider ever purchasing one.

I like an odd shaped room as a diversion but wouldn't want all my rooms to be round... The one below would make me feel like I was a guest on a talk show but most of the others are very attractive...
