Do you like and use wallpaper in your home?

When we moved into this house over 20 years ago wallpaper or a wallpaper border was in every single room, including the finished basement. I really loved the blue and white painterly stripe paper with French country cottage border in the kitchen. I also liked the magnolia print paper in the full bathroom. The papers in the other rooms were fine with one exception - the half bath was awful.

I never knew my DH hated wallpaper when we were looking for houses and bought this one! I found out a few years later when I told him I was going to remove the ugly wallpaper in the 1/2 bath. I asked him why he didn’t tell me. He said since we liked the house, and it was in an area we liked, he didn’t mention it. 😳

Well, 21 years later, all the wallpaper is gone. He is very happy. The last of the paper was removed when we remodeled our basement in 2019 after a flood. I like the solid wall colors because they are more versatile than papered walls, but I still remember how much I liked some of the wallpaper.

Any other wallpaper stories or opinions?

I like wallpaper. I only have it in my dining room, since it has been out of fashion. But if HGTV is to be believed it is coming back.

I used to love wallpaper and had it in several rooms. We removed the last of it two years ago when we remodeled our guest room. Never again. I don't care for it at all.

Every house I've owned has been old. Wallpaper seems to really go well in rooms that are big with tall ceilings, and especially the ones that have a picture railing that is about 16 inches from the ceiling.

Two things I've learned, never paint over wallpaper, and never put wallpaper in a room that gets steamed up too much. Here is a small bath at my house:

No. Having wallpaper anywhere in a house/apartment woud be a deal breaker for me.

I love my wallpaper, and couldn't care less if it's in style or not. Fashion in home decor comes and goes, but I know what I like and what makes me happy.

I'm afraid it's a deal breaker for me too. I don't care for wallpaper at all and know that if I buy a house with it already there, I'll have to take it down sooner or later and I would pretty much rather do anything else!

I always loved wall paper. When I was young everyone had wall paper in one or more of their rooms. I think the bathroom always had wall paper! I loved the florals and some of the themes you could pick for certain areas.

When I had my own place I did put up wallpaper in the kitchen and bathroom. However, as time went by it was easier to paint and there were a variety of colors to choose from However, to this day I still like the look of wallpaper , within my taste of course, and maybe one day will opt for wallpaper in a couple of rooms. I'm sure there are some great patterns to pick from.

Of couse, it dpends on the paper and I'm not fan of the currrent crush decorators seem to be having with grass cloth, but yes, I like wallpaper and if it's a pattenr I'd choose, I like it a lot. I'm less fond of most borders, most of which seem sort of dated to me.

We never had wallpaper when I was growing up, but a friend of mine encouraged me to put it in several of my rooms back in the 90s. I tired of it through the years, and found it EXTREMELY difficult to remove. I swore...never again!

A dear friend of mine sold her home last year, and was told by the realtor to remove all of the wallpaper because otherwise it would be difficult to sell.

Early 90s - had to have the vine wallpaper in kitchen and diningroom with our traditional decor. When I went more contemporary casual we removed paper. So difficult to remove, like others, we said 'never again.'

@wilma Oh yes grew up in U.K. with wallpaper everywhere!

DH and I always bought old Victorians in U.K. So William Morris wallpaper, Lincrusta wallpapers and paint the way to go. Loved decorating this way. We found some really beautiful papers then also one level in our house - bedrooms - was all Decco, and the papers unique. Yes, love wallpapers used correctly.

Then we ended up in several hundred years old cottage in the country - all beams, granite and paint.

I love wallpaper. Some patterns are a no go for me, but generally I am a big fan.

When we built our home, I had the two full baths and the two powder rooms wallpapered as well as one bedroom.

A few years ago, I removed the last of it in the baths. It was time to let it go as it was looking worn. I want to repaper the main bath again.

One of the reasons many people don't like it is the cost. It is extremely expensive and if you have to pay someone to put it up or take it down that really puts the price over the top.

Lucky me. My DH hangs wallpaper beautifully.

When we bought our first home, I scraped layers of wallpaper off of every wall in the house. My DH spackled and repaired the plaster walls and he re-papered the walls again with more modern designs. I really miss that house.

I still have some in my bathroom on one wall.....I thought about removing it, but it still looks good with the rest of the room so left it as it is....Ive seen rooms in magazines and online decorating sites where it does appear to be making a come-back ...For me, Its all up to the design of the wallpaper itself and how its used whether it appeals to me or not....

... and that's all that matters, your personal likes & what you're comfortable with.

I think it should be that way with anyone .. what one's personal preference is & likes.

I love wallpaper - always have, always will. Of course, I love victorian decor. I have some wallpaper in every room in my house, including halls, foyer, stairways, baths and laundry room. Some rooms only one wall, some rooms only border, some rooms all wallpaper. My kitchen is 3 walls with wall paper and one large wall that is stone.

My bedroom at home when I was young was wallpapered in roses and to this day I love roses and roses wallpaper (I now have one room with one wall papered in roses). My aunt had a large victorian home and she was very talented. She changed her wallpaper every few years and she and my uncle did it all.

Obviousy I could never go with contemporary decor or be a minimalist!
