200 YEAR OLD FRENCH FARMHOUSE RESTORED

Yes, they call this a 'farmhouse', as big and beautiful as it is! It's named "Le Mas des Poiriers", which I think means, "the farmhouse of the pear trees". It has that wonderful French quality of combining the simple and sophisticated. In contrast to the Normandy manor we looked at recently, it's in the south, in Provence.

This superb restoration is the work of one family, who, I get the impression, both live here (at times), and rent out the farmhouse and other buildings on the property, at other times.

Here in the mud room is that "high/low" contrast that is so beguiling in French decor -- the fine paintings, combined with quaint gingham, and the worn wood, terra cotta and practical baskets. Don't you love the geraniums and other potted plants and flowers:

These huge windows contribute so much to this spacious sitting room. I'm not even much of a fan of patterned curtains, but the soft muted colors, the quality of the fabric, and the way it coordinates with the Oriental rug is so pleasing...

So airy. I noticed several instances in the house where the doors are surprisingly colored, like this rich green.

That pop of the geraniums in the rectangular basket, love.

There are a number of pleasant places to dine in the house.

Pale blue cabinets and copper pots, pretty.

Even the laundry room......!

I like the way the other colors in the bathroom complement that luscious marble.

Such a pretty outlook.

Wow, gorgeous place. Not sure if I like the blue shutters or not but the inside is great!

And those huge windows!!!! I love big windows and big rooms. The size of some of those trees are amazing, wonder how old they are. I think if my hubby could he would live in France!

What a fabulous house and setting. What's not to love? I mignt replace a few of the furniture choices, but not many. I covet that table in the laundry room!

I am of French heritage, so I had to fall in love with this. I prefer the simple rooms over the ones with too much stuff. Sometimes less is more.

This is absolutely stunning. I prefer solid drapes but everything flows and blends so nicely here...very well done. Of course I would change a few things but not much..fantastic.

Beautiful, whoever did the decorating certainly did a beautiful job, and did it consistently.

What seems to bring everything together is all of the things that appear to have been collected over the years. I bet there is a story about every single piece. That's the kind of houses I like.

This is stunning, exquisite and very appealing, there isn't anything I do not like in this house. The drapes are beautiful, furniture elegant, spacious rooms, warm inviting dining areas, I am in love!

Breathtakingly serene. I'd love to have those variously shaped verdigris chandeliers, but what captures my heart is the vignette created by the portrait of the woman above the small desk and between the draperies on the two tall windows.
