Do you have houseplants?

My mom always had houseplants in the front living room and in the family room that looked into our backyard. When I got my first apartment she gave me my first houseplant. I’ve used them in my decor ever since. I love the green touches of live plants in a room. I have plants in my front living room and my sunroom.

Here’s 2 photos.

Living room front window

Top of TV armoire in sunroom

I don't have a green thumb but it never stops me from trying

When I worked, there was a plant on every desk

Once a week a service would come in to pull off dead leaves, etc & water.

If a plant was past its prime, they would just pull it up & replace it.

The pulled up plant would go in the trash, where I would rescue it.

I haven't worked in years & those plants are doing very well.

I love houseplants & the calming effect they give me! My dear sweet mama recently passed away and she had this African Violet for over 25 years. When I brought it home, there were no blooms. As you can see it is doing beautifully! Every time I look at it, a spiritual moment for sure.

Just my glance could set them on the path to failure! So sorry! I looked away quickly, hoping not to seal their fate. They looked so strong and vividly green.

Green like my envy of anyone who can keep indoor plants alive!

I only have a couple of plants. The first one is called Angel Wing. I started this from a clipping from my husbands grandmother’s plant. The plant is over a hundred years old. I don’t know if Angel Wing is the official name. And the other plant is an Orchid that has bloomed four times.

I'm not a fan of plants in the house. I have a bunch of tropicals most of which go in the garage for the winter. A few plants end up in the "sunroom" for the winter only because I don't have the space in the garage. I just find them messy. They drop leaves and bring bugs in (since they spend the summer outside). Plus, the cats want to play with them and I have to be careful watering them to not get water on the floor. I have one Anthurrium that has a spot in the kitchen window during the winter, but I have to surround it with stuff to try to keep my blind cat from killing it. I'm not sure why he has a thing for that particular plant. In the summer I put a Calla plant there and he leaves it alone.

I do have an aerogarden though although it is currently not in operation. I wanted to use it for some seed starting, but I'm still waiting on some of my seeds. After that, I'm hoping to grow some French green beans in it.

My houseplants and all carpet had to go after my husband and daughters allergies, asthma and COPD issues worsened.

I do have a huge Christmas cactus that is part of the plant my farm grandma had in her bedroom when she died 50 years ago. The cactus lives on my porch in the summer, and in my basement the rest of the time.

I used to have terrible luck with houseplants until a former neighbor, who had the greeniest thumb I had ever seen, told me that I mostly likely was overwatering them. He said to let them dry out completely before watering.

Once I stopped drowning them I had much better luck. Recently I've switched to succulents and I am finding that they are very easy to grow. In fact, they are growing so well that I am running out of places to put the new plants when I repot them.

Our house, unfortunately, doesn't have a lot of places where a plant can get natural light.

I have three large plants, two are regular houseplants and one is a large Aloe Vera plant in front of my sliding patio door.

I have a few in my diningroom and a few on my window sill in the kitchen.

If moving was an option, I would love to have a house with a large sunroom where I could enjoy having many plants.

I used to have quite a few years ago, but I only have 2 Christmas cactus plants now. One is huge and seldom blooms. The other is medium sized and blooms profusely in the fall after I bring it back indoors from the summer shade. I keep a small Aloe Vera plant in the kitchen and use it for burns. All those plants just became too much work for me, and I no longer have the room or the interest.
