Italian decor

Is your preference for in home and furniture decor different than the person you share rent/mortgage with? This photo is similar to my sis-in-law's (SIL) decor taste for many years. Funny story - her husband's parents were born in Italy. Stylish BIL is all about Italian made with shoes and clothes, etc. SIL decorated with elaborate, old world Italian furniture and wall decor. Recently they replaced front-room furniture. I commented how different new furniture was from previous style. BIL said - I know -- I hated that heavy, fancy, curly-q furniture. Big laugh. SIL confessed she only recently learned how he didn't like this style and she only decorated that way for him. Great couple, married 35 years. Best friends who talk about everything - almost.

Just beautiful! I love it, elegance, so appealing, the chandelier is exquisite! I can appreciate the design and style because it fits my taste.

@jeanlake Is this how they recently decorated? It's very French. (Louis 15).

@jeanlake I really like this room - don’t know why as it definitely is not my usual taste at all but something about it really appeals to me.

Love, love the chandelier and the ‘calming’ colours. Thanks for sharing enjoyed seeing this.

This is their older style. I should have written Eurpoean old world decor and not just Italian.

Decor ‘Meh’, not my taste. Not a fan of sets, reproductions, or OTT formal.

That's so funny

That chandelier is pretty.

When we got married, my husband had all brown furniture.

Some of it wasbrown and black and grey plaid.😜

Needless to say, bit by bit those were changed but he liked everything I changed it too. Ok, well most things lol!

My husband and I have almost identical taste when it comes to home furnishings.

I usually shop alone, even for a room full of furniture and he is just surprised when it gets here. The last time we needed Family room furniture, I asked him to come along.

We both headed to the same sectional. They after looking at thousands of swatches, we both picked out the same fabric.

The only devide we have is his "shrine" in the living room. He is a decorated police officer. He saved two people from certain death and almost lost his life. He was given many awards for his bravery and quick thinking.

I would like to see the home office/ sitting room dedicated to his trophy awards. Instead, he prefers that they hang in a prominent spot in our formal living room taking up a whole wall.

They do not match the mood of the room, but he is very adamant about them being there. It's not worth it to me to hurt his feelings, and it's his house too. So, they aren't going anywhere.

I am very proud of him, but the lifesaving plaques are ugly.

The furniture is absolutely beautiful ... I would call it French Provincial more than Italian decor but, whatever you call it I love it!!! 🥰❤️

I like it, but don't like leather furniture. I would keep it, but have fabric on the furniture.

It's a nice vignette and the individual pieces are lovely if a bit too ornate, for me anyway. Moreover, while I'd enjoy a piece or two of formal furniture, I wouldn't want an entire room of it. As for whether this is French, Italian or something in between, keep in mind that, as with food, at various times throughout history, the French and the Italians have borrowed substantially from each other and the design of their furniture, at times, has reflected that fact. My take-away from this room would be the beautiful cabinet in the background near the window. I'd love to own it. I don't share my home with anyone so decorating choices are exclusively mine.
