FLATWARE BARGAINS ON EBAY

Does anyone remember the RSVP stainless flatware pattern that QVC used to offer years ago, "Fenwick"? It was an antique "fiddle" shape, and you could choose your monogram. It's nice and heavy, glossy, and has held up beautifully. Love all the serving pieces. Of course, I gobbled it up-- I love monogrammed stuff! (Even though I already had a small stainless set of "Boston Antique" by Towle, which to this day, I mix with "Fenwick".)

Anyway, I just wanted to remind people that you can pick up big sets of flatware on Ebay, often for great prices.

What started all this, was, I just noticed that Ebay has a full, 91 piece set of "Fenwick" (with the "C" monogram) for sale at $28!

I know whereof I speak. About a year ago I greedily augmented my set of Fenwick when I spotted some on Ebay. It was a different mongram than mine, but who cares-- it happened to be the letter "Y", which also has sentimental importance to me.

My second-hand "Fenwick" set, was in great condition, comparing very favorably to the original one I got new from QVC.

Anyone wanting to augment their collection, or help someone else who is setting up housekeeping on a budget, maybe for the first time, can do so pretty nicely through Ebay...

I know this is off topic @Oznell , but your post struck a chord with me. My father used to say, "I know whereof I speak." I've also said it at least a few times in my life. I'm glad to see that someone else still says it, too. Lol.

@Oznell eBay is a great repository of things no longer available for purchase. I found my old crystal pattern on there and have replenished my supply. Also have bought beautiful Boehm, Capodimonte and Cybis porcelain flowers to add to my collection. Oh, and jewelry . . . LOTS of jewelry!

Yeah, @Desert Lily, I like those old phrases too-- I'm not sure where that popped up from! It has an agreeably archaic tone, like perhaps it was originally in the Bible, or maybe Shakespeare?

@VegasBusinessWoman, you have garnered some real treasures from there! Good scores. I never thought I'd try it, but the prices were so good that I've periodically looked there, and like you, have had great luck with the few things I've purchased...

@Oznell Yes, you certainly do know whereof you speak. That flatware sounds lovely. I always check Ebay out for new or used items; I browse Etsy as well. A few months ago I was pining for the Partylite Quad Prism 2" pillar candleholder and vase.

I used to have a set of two but ex-husband got one of the pair--too long of a story--don't ask.

So, I searched Etsy, without luck, but Ebay had quite the assortment of these in a large span of prices, some as single pieces or pairs. I was able to get four, all from one seller, for the price of what some other sellers wanted for just one, and they were in pristine condition--worked out to around $10.00 apiece, including the shipping, and they are heavy.

So now all five are gracing surfaces and arranged all over my living room, along with my Waterford crystal hurricanes and bowl purchased from the Q a few years back. They are just my style and taste and blend beautifully in contemporary or traditional settings.

Well, thank you for kind words, @aroc3435! And I learned something-- your description tantalized me and I had to go look up the Partylite Quad Prism. They are just up my alley too! They look so substantial, and just glisten. I bet they look great with candlelight and with your Waterford sparkling away as well.

The kind of scores you made on ebay are the kind that put a glimmer in any collector's eye!

@Oznell I had to update you on the Fenwick flatware set you posted about that you saw on eBay with the "C" monogram. That happens to be my last name initial....and I thought a lot about that set. My set is a Reed and Barton that I got on the Q probably at least 20 years ago, and is starting to look a bit worn. The Fenwick set was only $28 ....butI talked myself out of it.

Then a week or so ago I got a notice from eBay that the price had dropped to around $14!!!!! Even with the shipping is was only. around $27. I jumped on it...it came today, and OMG....it looks like brand new! Service for 12, with serving pieces. I couldn't be happier....my old set will be boxed up and taken to Goodwill.

Thank you so much for the heads up....I got a great deal, and this set will probably last the rest of my life, at my age!!! Happy New Year and thanks, Oznell!!!

@alicedee, I could not be more THRILLED! How perfect that the monogram was the same as yours. I also got a notice from ebay after I posted this, and I too was freaked that the price had dropped! You got such a bargain on your huge set.

Your experience is the same as mine with my "supplementary" set-- it came in almost pristine condition, shining and substantial. In fact I believe that some of the pieces had not been used at all-- the previous owner was probably like me, and couldn't use such a big set all at once and was keeping a few pieces in reserve...

Thanks for posting this very fun bit of news, and enjoy your personalized flatware to the hilt! There's just something about having your surname initial on your silverware, makes it even more enjoyable.
