CANADIAN STONE HOUSE FROM THE 1850'S

This ravishing old house in Paris, Ontario (not far from Toronto) has been featured a number of places, but the "Blue and White Home" blogger has a huge array of gorgeous pictures of it.

What I like about it is the serenity, and the ignoring of fads and trends. The owners know what they like! And that includes lovely, refined antiques, but those are vibrantly mixed with select pieces of modern art. I always appreciate that blend, because it saves a place from feeling museum-like or in a time capsule.

In some of the rooms, the original stone walls are exposed, adding even more character:

Stenciled floors are so interesting.

This "breakfast room" for me would be a formal dining room! Love the Hitchcock-type chairs.

And there's even a cozy little spot in the breakfast room to curl up in comfort and enjoy tea...

But the kitchen is the piece de resistance! Tin ceiling, that stove, stone floor, marble counters, shutters...

Here's the actual dining room...

Library. Just the house's collection of all different Oriental rugs is dreamy.

Loft-like master bedroom.

Nice idea to have a fireplace in the bathroom, for those chilly nights and mornings!

Just stunning. Really like the texture that the exposed walls brings to the rooms.

The kitchen is dreamy . Would spend so much time there.

I also like the contrast of the Jackson Pollock type painting in the formal looking dining room.

Better to have someone to light the fire in the bathroom. That's the issue. Starting fires in the fireplace. A chore

Love everything about it, @Oznell except for the cold/stark/white-walled-and-floored master bedroom (unwarmed even by the lovely furnishings) and the modern so-called "art." I envy the owners, though, their success in creating a home that suits their varied tastes.

This is a beautiful home which has so much appeal. I love the furnishings, most of the decor, I am not a modern art fan. I see this house as a comfortable, warm inviting place with elegance and character. It's for me.

I love the decor in the house. Canada is a beautiful country. I traveled by car in Ontario -- Toronto and a lot of the countryside plus Ottawa. Ottawa reminds me of London and the palaces. I found Ontario to be exceptionally clean. What I found very attractive is when you leave the big city (Toronto) you are in the country.

The house itself is very nice - love the brickwork and the woodwork.

The decorating is too formal for me.

But oh how I could work with this house to suite me just fine no problem!
