New Kitchen Window Blinds

I had my kitchen window replaced last week and also purchased new blinds to replace the wood blinds that we had installed 9 years ago. I never liked the wood blinds - they were too heavy and had too many cords to raise/lower them - they always looked sloppy to me. The new blinds are vinyl, lighter weight and no cords at all. They are so easy to raise/lower with light pressure to the bottom of the blind - up or down. I doubt this is a new product, but it's new to me and I absolutely love these blinds. The brand is Levelor and I purchased them at Lowe's. Just wanted to pass along a really nice product if anyone is thinking of new window blinds. They look terrific to me.

I actually have been looking for replacement blinds. I love the idea of cordless. Could I ask the brand and are they custom made. Thanks for any info.

@jannabelle1 I'd be curious to know what your experience will be with the cordless blinds. I have Levalor custom wooden cordless blinds on my front windows. The windows are tall, and I thought cordless was the perfect solution. However they are a huge PITA. The mechanism constantly disengages and I can't raise them without doing all sorts of maneuvers.

I ordered them for the rest of the house, the following year, and went with the cords.

I just purchased a new blind for my bathroom...bottom up/top down and cordless. I can have the bottom of the window covered with the top open. I have them in several rooms in the house and really like them. I purchased mine from blinds.com.

@Terrywu, no they weren't custom made. They were "stock" blinds, although Lowe's had to cut the width to fit the window. They do that at no charge. The cost for the blind was around $55. Extremely reasonable since it's exactly what I wanted.

@OnlyShopsOnline, the wood blind that I replaced was also Levelor and I never liked them. I think they're beautiful blinds, but they're just so heavy. I can't imagine them being cordless! I'm just so much happier with the vinyl blinds - I know they're not as popular, but they're sure right for my kitchen window!

Two years ago I spent too much money on wooden, Hunter Douglas blinds. The basement window (walk out) and two floor to ceiling windows didn't survive a toddler. I was amazed how little tug and pull the blinds could take. Replacing door and two other window blinds with shades - until I decide what I really want to do with this area. I should have gone with blinds.com or Lowes / Home Depot.

I do not like any sort of blinds. Dust collectors and difficult to keep clean. In our last home we had cordless shades and here in our condo we also installed shades, Hunter Douglas, but with a chain. Love both versions. And no maintenance required.

I got cord less solar shades for bedrooms. I love that I can see through them when pulled down, but from the outside you can't see inside. I got mine from Amazon on Prime day. I have big windows and each shade was just under $100.00.

I bout some blinds for one of my kitchen windows (over the sink) about 3 or 4 years ago. I never got around to installing them but just got them out again a week or so ago. I'm off for almost two weeks at Christmas and the plan is to get them up then. They aren't Levelor but operate the same way. I either got them at Lowe's or Menards.

Most of our windows have cordless shades. I prefer them to the old corded ones we had.

I got the top down/bottom up cellular shades for my master bath from Blinds. com as well. It look longer for me to open the box than it did for me to install them. I am happy with my purchase and I'm looking to purchase solar shades for my master bedroom from them as well.

I was in a hotel this year with the blinds between the glass panes. I think tat was an option when I bought my windows last year, but I had already settled on interior plantation shutters.

I liked the idea of the shade between the panes because you could raise it all the way up for a full view and lower it and it was a blackout shade.

And no cleaning ;o)

@teachergal I never heard of a shade that you can look out of but people can't see in. What is the name of the manufacturer?

@VaBelle35 it is a good idea until the shade gets stuck. Since it's between the panes there is nothing you can do...trust me.

@panda1234 check out blinds dot com. They have solar shades with different levels of opacity. They have videos that show what you can see from the inside out and outside in.

I was looking at these for one of my bedrooms where privacy isn't an issue. BD is at the back of the house on a very wooded lot.
