monday our 13 year old whirlpool washer died and blew a fuse messing up cable internet and phone for 3 days until verizon came to fix it. repairman came to fix washer but motor was no good and transmission was on its way out to so not worth fixing. he said best brand to buy is whirlpool or ge. and he said stay away from samsung and lg. front loaders and he washers. so maria and her mom anna went to local appliance dealer and bought a ge 4.2 cubic feet washer that camne be used as an he low level or you can wash and rinse with a full tube of water. with tax it came to 560.00. free delivery free removal of old appliance free hoses next day delivery. i did 2 loads today and totally love it. super high speed spin clothes came out with so much less water than old washer.load of colored clothes including 2 pairs of jeans were dry in 30 minutes. i sat on floor and played candy crush and listened to whole wash cycle. it was an hour long. but when it was in the final spin i was very impressed with the speed of it. and clothes came out nice and clean. i highly recomend it.

Glad you're happy with your new washer.

I have a front loader LG that's 7 years old and knock on wood has never had to be serviced. Never had a problem with it and my clothes come out clean and smelling nice!

Sometimes when an appliance quits - it actually does us a favor. Repairman told you the brands to avoid and those are the ones I've heard nothing but trouble with. I have a Whirlpool home and rental property and tenant's love it.

My 10+ yo GE died on me about 3 weeks ago. I thought I needed a belt, the repair man told me when he opened the front he could see the seal was breaking so I neede a new machine. He also told me stay away from LG and that they rec Speed Queen, Maytag and Whirlpool (Maytag and WP are made by the same co)

I went with a Maytag 5.2 top load. LOVE it but it's huge. I knew it would be big but this is really big, have to stand on my toes to get clothes from the bottom.

I like that I can use the fill feature or use HE mode too. It also has a feature that cleans the machine.

Outside getting a bill for a repair that didn't happen and a bill for a new machine at a really bad time, I'm thrilled!

When you have a great spin cycle, the dryer hardly runs.

I found that out when I replaced my 26 year old set.

@Pooky1 , I just replaced a 14 year old Kenmore with a Whitlpool HE and I am happy with the choice. I bought a Whirlpool fridge and am on the fence about that. I find it loud. LM

I went cheap with my replacements and they are all loud.

I'm making sure to put aside cash for future replacements so that I'm not in that position again.

My dishwasher is a GE and is very quiet, much quieter than my original GE.

The GE fridge is another story.

In 44 years of marriage, I've only ever had GE Washers/Dryers...and can't imagine having anything else! I'm on my 3rd set and have only called the repairman once in all those years.

@Pooky1 Congratulations on your new washer. I think I saw one like it on Lowe's website recently. Have you used the full tub function, and how full does it really fill?

I have a Speed Queen, but one never knows when a new appliance will be needed, and mine is out of the full 3 year warranty period now.

shopr. only used it twice and only plan on using full tub mode. it fills up all the way up just like washers use to. the correct way. its well worth it.

I had a GE washer and dryer for 35 years. Gave it away and bought a new one. The problem with my oid,it was over flowing. Found out the sewer was clogged. People I gave it to, say it's still running and they love it.

We bought a new GE washer and dryer set last year, and I LOVE them.

You are right about the spin! It's so efficient, and the clothes take much less time in the dryer.

It has all of the features that I said I would never need, and I use all of them, lol. I especially love the Bluetooth connectivity. I can look at my phone and see where my laundry is in its cycle. That's extremely helpful for me, as I have arthritis, and try to limit the times I do the steps daily.

It's the first time we've ever bought GE. I used to always buy Whirlpool, from Sears. But, Whirlpool left Sears, and Sears is going to close at any time. So we purchased elsewhere. We had had just about every other brand of appliance somewhere in our home and, so far, I'm very pleased with GE.

@SHOPR When I was researching machines every single place (HD, Lowes, 3 Local to here) and the repair man all said buy a speed queen.

The only reason I didn't was their options are too limited. The top load had an agitator so my really heavy dog blankets (I mean really really heavy) don't fit and the front load was over 2k!

Speed queen's warrantee was 10 years vs. everyone else at 1 year.

Each of them said if you buy a speed queen you have it for 25 years+. I hope you like your machine because it looks like your're stuck with it !!

on the flip side, they all agreed LG was not a good purchase : (

@Jtdmum Oh yes I am glad to have my Speed Queen. I think the warranty on mine is 3 years parts and labor, then certain individual parts only (no labor) are covered for a specified number of years, like 3, 5, 10, etc.

I missed your earlier post about your new Maytag 5.2 top loader with full fill feature. Does your truly fill all the way to the top?

Shopr you have the best of the best in that "vintage" speed queen. Take care of it (don't overload it) and I bet you have it a long long time. Not sure if you have heard but the newer speed queens are not so good anymore as far as wash action. You and I have the good ones (pre-2018 models).

@SHOPR I only used the fill feature once and it really did a great job. I'd say it filled twice as high as the regular water saver wash.

I'll pay closer attention next time and if it doesn't fill up I"ll let you know!

My favorite washer ever was a GE Cabrio. (No agitator; I know some of you hate that.) I now have Electrolux front loaders; not thrilled with them.
