ART AND ANTIQUE LOVER'S LONDON TERRACE HOUSE

This will not be everyone's "cuppa", since it is antique-filled, layered and collected. But I think it's a scrumptious example of the classic, exquisite, but slightly fevered and ever so slightly quirky English style! It's designed by a fabulous Italian-born English-based designer, Paolo Moschino.

Below, the gorgeous oxblood, or "sang de boeuf" (sp?) lamps seem so English to me. Years ago I started noticing that type of china in pictured English country houses, and got a small one myself, which even today sits in my dining room.

Things I love-- Moschino's trend-defying use of warm sands and browns in the house (so cozy when London fog rolls in) freshened with lots of white woodwork, the finishes, the old engravings used en masse, the portraits, the painted furniture to relax the mood.

Note: Here's the same room, but notice the table is changed, and they've ditched the oxblood lamps for more casual bouquets. I love when decorating sites show you how the homeowner switches things up in their houses. Just like me, they get bored and rotate their decor!

Sitting room:

The English do love their porcelain, and insist on having it all around them: more sang de boeuf, and note that cute bulldog (?) in the corner:

And get this study! I'm not even a "red person", but this room just speaks to Moschino's playfulness, and confident sense of cheer:

I gather this is the back exit (contrasted with that more formal entry we saw at the beginning.)

Sorry for being so long-winded, when all you want to do is see the pictures! But I feel there's so much here for us to dissect. For me, as beautiful and rarefied as they are, I'd just have to subtract, oh, about one fifth's worth, perhaps, of the collections and bibelots, and would be very content.

And if I were English, wouldn't I have a madcap neice in town, or a perennial bachelor uncle, who'd be happy to get the overflow from my thinned-out superb stash of objects, ha.

By the way, fellow Anglophiles, these came from the British edition of House and Garden, and from Habitually Chic, which are good sources of English interiors.

Mostly like everything, but the artwork on the walls is overwhelming....much of it too dark for my taste.

The large stripes would have to go, however. I would opt for red, but below a chair rail, with a neutral color above.

Overall, I could move right in! Love the quiet elegance of everything.

I love the rooms and furniture...very well done but the artwork is claustrophobic to me. I also do not care for busts so they would have to go.

Art is so personal and this is far from what is pleasing to my eye.

The vases and sculpture sitting on the back of the sofa look out of place...they could fall when someone sits on the sofa....so I would never place them there.

The striped wallpaper is overload for me for sure.

Me, I would subtract over 3/4's worth.

I really like some of the pieces Individually, but for me, there are just too many and it "feels" very cramped.

It is lovely to look at, but I am way too informal to live there.

Couldn’t picture me in my jeans, flopped on a sofa watching TV!

I love most of the rooms, but most of the art is not my taste. Art is so personal...But I do like a lot of the rooms shown.....

This is all in tune with my taste and style, I love everything about the looks. I also think the art work is beautiful and so appealing throughout. This entire look is for me without a doubt!

This looks to be an impressive house and there are many amazing elements contained in it. I usually like an 'English' look but this, overall, doesn't come together very well for me. The design and the rooms seem overly rigid and I'm not loving many of the fabfic choices or colors chosen. I actively dislike the striped wallpaper. I recall Sarah Richardson often uses similar patterns and I've just never cared for the 'circus tent' look. Obviously, as with all designs, it's a matter of individual choice.

I agree with others. I think there are too many paintings and prints on the walls. It’s hard to focus on any one.

although there are some really cozy and comfy seating areas that i was really drawn to, i couldn't see past the artwork. there was way too much of it for my taste. if i could see the rooms without all the art, i would probably like it a lot.

I do like most but not all rooms fully appeal to me.

I do not like the red stripe wallpaper, that seems too different for the home in general.

I do not like the feeling of clutter, clutter in some rooms. The reaction I have is that one is showing off what they have, and realistically they are.

I say 9 out of 10. However I would not mind if it was mine, and the tent would be gone.

Well, you were right....it's not my "Cuppa"!!! As I recall,there were some very beautiful individual pieces but just about each room had far too much included for me to take a mental note of what things I really liked.

The artwork has got to go! Not my cup of tea. The only part I really like is the patio outside. The inside has too much stuff everywhere.

The home would definitely be enjoyed by antique lovers, however I would be very uncomfortable in that setting.
