I need a step stool to do laundry!!

I had to get a new washer. I didn't want to schlep around stores so I had DD go to a couple of places and take pictures and we checked reviews online. Finally I got sick of reading "i love it" and the next review was "I hate it" on the same washer.

I gave her money and said go buy one. It's a Maytag, that stupid HE stuff, and it's

okay, except getting things from the bottom of the tub is nuts.

There were a couple pair of socks in the bottom and I had to get a small stool and still had my ribs pushing against it to grab them.

Not everyone is tall or has arms so long your knuckles drag on the ground. The only saving grace is we don't have a ton of laundry.

My friend just got a new HE washer and says the same thing. She got one of those grab sticks to get the laundry out. She never thought about reaching in when she was looking at them. She's tall and has long arms. She likes it otherwise.

My sister has one, but she bought hers a few years ago. Hers isn't deep like that.

@Retired Legal Secretary - I have the same problem—silicone-tipped tongs work great for reaching down and grabbing that errant sock or washcloth.

I recently got a Maytag, one with that stupid HE stuff - and it won't spin the clothes dry every time....I usually have to reset it to drain and spin. Not happy about that, costs a pretty penny !

Rubbermaid is your best choice. Sturdy - a one level and they also have a style that gives you a step up - another step up and perhaps a third. They don't slide on the floor either. Other stools can be light-weight plastic.

(I also have a deep tub but no problem digging to the bottom)

My washer broke down last November right before Thanksgiving. I went out by myself and brought a new one that very night.

I am 5'1" and after checking out many different makes and models, I chose one that I can reach all the way in to the bottom.

I would be frustrated if I had to use a step stool to do laundry

We switched to a front loader LG about 3 years ago and I love it because I am short. I hated the old HE top loader we had and that was one of the reasons, plus it was always off balance with a large load, and a number of other issues I've posted about.

I am sorry you all are having this issue, because I remember how awful and frustrating it was! I hope you find a solution!

I'm glad it's not just me. It washes well but you could crack a rib getting stuff out. I have a grabber thing but I will get another strictly for the washer.

The next thing is a frig. I got a side by side years ago and I hate it. It's huge. Back then I cooked a lot more and hosted holidays and it seemed like a good idea.

I want a simple frig with a top freezer, no H2o/ice in the door. Now that it's just DD and I not much cooking is done and I don't need a lot of freezer space. We both tend to graze instead of eating big meals. Food just isn't appealing anymore.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 Mines a Whirlpool he. It took me awhile reaching before I realized I could spin the tub with my hand to reach the items in back. 🤗

@1Snickers, that´s what I do also. Spin the tub towards me. Before that, the top fell on my head twice. One thing I like about the tub is that it can wash the largest comforter without any problem. The dryer is also very big.

At one time the washer sang when it was finished washing, but it doesn´t anymore lol

I feel your pain, as I had a set of HE W/D and experienced the same situation. AND...you need to leave the door open or it will start to smell like mold/mildew - in the machine & in your laundry room. The rubber gasket (not sure that is the right term) also starts to smell and/or get moldy black spots. I kept mine really clean and still had problems. Between having a hard time getting the clothes out, and the mold issue, I gave up and got rid of the pair. I used to have a Maytag for years & years that I just loved and really missed. I found out Speed Queen used to make those Maytags and they now just make Speed Queen...but they look just like my old Maytag. They are slightly more expensive (and not HE) because they are industrial quality and mine came with a 5 year warranty included. Also, they are made in Wisconsin - not overseas - so all parts are easily accessible. I am so happy now that my W/D are back to the lower height, and I can keep the lid closed, and it is simply & easy to use. I feel like I am back in the good old days.

Oh, even spinning the tub doesn't help. One of DD socks was in the front and I still needed the darn stool to get hold of it. I was not using my "inside voice" and some dandy words were being used.

This is so funny. I'm not all that short, I'm 5'3" but I have short arms. Last summer when we were at my daughter's home, I had the same problem with her washer. I couldn't reach all the way to the bottom to get stuff out. I ended going up to the kitchen to get salad tongs...LOL

I can’t reach either so I bought extra long tongs & use them to get the clothes out of the washer 😂🤣

I have a front loader (no problems and it does a great job!) washer & dryer sitting on drawer pedestals so they are at the perfect height!

@Havarti Mine has a magnet in the door to keep it slightly ajar...no mold or mildew problems.

When I needed a new washer and dryer about a year or so ago, I saw those tall washers that don't spin. The lady at the appliance store said those type of washers are difficult to learn to use because you have to load them just so. She said if I was used to the spin-type washers, Whirlpool still makes them. That's what I got.

I may be old fashioned, but I prefer the spin type washers that you load from the top (any old way) and start the machine and go.
