Hydrogen Peroxide Laundry Test Results

Tonight I washed a load of white towels. There were two old towels in the mix with not so old towels. The not so old came out so bright and the two older towels looked better too. The peroxide took out the stains on the old towel except for one. I used a little over a cup of peroxide and my laundry detergent which is the newer Tide liquid that is less expensive.

If you get stains on your clothes or towels, immediately use the hydrogen peroxide on it and rub lightly -- the stain will come out. Even if you try it later, it will still work.

Delighted to hear it worked well for you, @Katcat1 . I've used HP on my white lacy bras, slips, panties, camisoles and nighties and gotten the dingy look out without damaging them the way bleach does. Of course it wworks well on cotton fabrics, but finding something to whiten my delicates was what made me try it on them. It's a cheap fix for an old problem.

KatCat1, Do you have a top loading machine or a front loader? I wouldn't think that you would use as much peroxide in a front loader that you would in a top loader.

@lavenderfields I did some research on the matter and it is 1 cup per load. I am in an apt. and the laundry room is 2 doors down from me. It is a top loader. I used the 1 cup but put in a little extra. I don't see why you would use any less in the front load machine. If I remember correctly, you use the same amount of detergent in the front load.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I just recently read not sure where but, Saline solution that contact users use works wonders for stains. The article said to make sure it was just pure saline beacause some of the solutions are mixed with other ingredients. Never tried this but I am getting a bottle to keep in laundry room. I am definitely trying the peroxide on my towels.

I must hve missed a post and am curious about the hydrogen peroxide to clean white clothing. I cannot use bleach on my clothing because of sensitivity issues. I am wondering if this would work for me?

Also, could someone explain the procedure since I missed it? I have a front load machine and use liquid laundry soap. Would I put the peroxide where I normally would add the bleach? How much do you use?

One last question, can you use this on colored clothes or will it bleach the color out?

Saline solution is salt water. My mother often soaked stained garments in a bucket of salt water. Old time laundry hint.

HP is also great for removing blood stains - whether the item is white or color.

@Boehm Collector DO NOT use bleach. The whole purpose of the HP is to eliminate bleach.

@AngelPuppy1 I once used hydrogen peroxide in the laundry when washing a pink flannel duvet cover. I was left with big white blotches all over it. That was my experience, but i hope others have had better results! (Also, i can't remember whether i put it directly on the stains or in the wash water.)

I do think it works great on white. I don't think i ever heard of using salt water... thanks to all who mentioned that!

There is a household cleaner flo-kem, i use that,also the sodium percarbonate is really good.

@SuesCat @AngelPuppy1 Hydrogen Peroxide (HP) is excellent for whites. I have also used it directly on a stain that was on colored pajamas (baby blue) and it was okay. It is suggested for brights colors and darks to color test first. My white towels came out very bright.
