a question about laundry please

so i've posted before about my dsd moving in. 16, and inherited her dads over performing sweat glands.

not the best for a young lady, learning (finally) about proper hygiene and such.

the problem is when i do the laundry, the clean wet clothes, still smell of b.o. not a "faint" odor either.

i put my nose to the wet arm area, and it was a "woah, baby" not good.

i have tried a better quality detergent, and it's improved.

would spot treating help? although there are no pit stains.

any suggestions? pre soak maybe?

dh seems to think dryer sheets or some such thing is going to help. but... what is the point of adding something to the dryer when the clothing still is not fresh smelling?

I know some people get Botox for overactive sweat glands.

You could try vinegar in the wash water.

She should see a dermatologist, there are things that can help her.

I've found a product at Wal-Mart that does eliminate odors. It's OUT Workwear Odor Eliminator.

You add it to the dispenser with the detegent. I've tried other such products, and this one really works.

Add tea tree oil to the wash; also disinfects.

Sounds like she needs a better antiperspirant, not just a deodorant. The one she is using isn't working.

Buy her Mitchum and suggest that she use it faithfully. Also she needs to shower and change clothing daily..including her bra.

Many teenage girls and boys have this problem until their hormones settle down. I remember those days when my kids were there.

Pour white vinegar on each of the arm stains, let it sit before putting it in the washing machine and then wash as usual. It will remove the odor and and perspiration stain.

Two of my boys have been prescribed something from the dermatologist for excessive sweating. You apply it at night, only once in awhile, like monthly or so. It stings for a bit, but then you don't sweat at all. She should look into that. No fun to walk around with pit stains or odor.

she still won't be actually moved in until school is over.

i have bought her adequate bras and undies, and told her the importance of changing them every day. she is starting to get on board with showering everyday. i have to go slow, as she has self esteem problems as well. don't want her to think that she is less than, or inferior for having the odor.

we are actually making great progress slowly.

she has started to show a little intrest in getting some new things that arent from goodwill (her mom) and when she wears "home" a unsuitable garment with holes, it gets trashed. baby steps.

yes i know about botox, and going to the dr. for this, but its way too soon to be putting so much focus on her like that.

she would crumble.

There are two websites I would recommend. The laundress dot com and puracy dot com.

Both sell their own products on their site and are available at Target and Amazon.

Both companies have excellent CS and you may call, email or use social media for specific questions.

I was reading labels recently and noticed that Oxy Clean makes a detergent formula to deodorize laundry. I was wondering if it would work on the stinky odor many QVC clothes (blue denim) have.

Would using Lysol Laundry Sanitizer in your wash help by killing the bacteria on the clothing from the sweat that's causing the odors? I use it in place of fabric softener in the rinse cycle to sanitize my towels, undies, etc.

I love that Lysol Sanitizer. If that doesn't work then nothing else will...and no, it does not smell like 'Lysol'. It has a clean, fresh linen scent.

@Somertime i'm trying this now as we speak, as i had some vinegar. there was another good suggestion that i'm going to try, something at wal-mart, called blast or something. i'll give that a try as well. @hummermom suggested OUT for workwear odor. lots of good suggestions here on this.

i'll start ticking them off to see what works.

When you buy her clothes, try to avoid those with a high spandex content. I’ve found that clothing with a high spandex content (especially workout clothing) retains perspiration odor. Adding a cup of baking soda to the wash helps eliminate the odor. I buy it in 10 pound bags at BJ’s for the laundry.
