Yes there is a difference I use the dollar store lights in my patio flower pots looks like a candle at night. I got the bigger solar lights at Home Depot and they give off alot of light for seeing. I use both. I saw HSN for a brief time while changing channels hope they are glass because you can clean inside them & are heavy instead of plastic incase you get a windy day. I paid $59 for 4 lights at Home Depot but to me it is worth it they lasted a few years now. Even got my daughter a set for Christmas.

It depends on what you want to use them for. My current lights are from costco. It was a set of 8. I think they were $49 with $20 off. They are glass and give off a lot of light. They line my walkway and are bright enough to see where you are going. My goal was lights that were bright enough to see by. I didn't care the cost, but stumbled across a bargain.

I bought some at Big Lots. Keep them charged outside. They are emergency lights to bring in the house in case of a power failure at night.

They are cute accents in her planters. She also clusters them in odd-numbered groups near an outdoor table where she and her daughter sit out on summer nights.

Edit: to be clear, you shouldn't think of the Dollar Store lights as outdoor 'lighting'.

Rather, they add points of light, and help define an area or tie accent plantings together.

My neighbor uses them to define her relaxation area from the rest of the back yard.

The dollar store lights make for nice garden accents. I have a few tucked in my garden.

I always check the LUMENS.

For $5 you can get similar ones at Walmart or Lowe's but actually give off decent light due to more lumens.

And you can pay more for better lights. It all depends on what you need.
