I never had this problem with cotton or polyester covered comforters. It's not the fill -- I can only use poly or cotton due to down allergies. Microfiber is a really tight weave. Are all microfiber covers made the same? So light and soft. Dries so fast.. So cold last night but I still had to get out from under the comforter. Any fabric experts out there?

I don’t know about a microfiber comforter but I once had some sheets and it was like sleeping in a baggie. Hot, stuffy just yucky feeling. I don’t need heavy blankets etc where I live. Just a sheet or light blanket most of the year.

I would get hot. The only blanket we have on our bed is an electric blanket. Even with it turned off I get hot. I put the heat on 63° when I go to bed to keep from getting hot. LOL!!!

I can't stand to wear or sleep in or under anything made of polyester or microfiber. Those synthetic fabrics are made from the same thing as plastic.

They do not break down in landfills and hold oily stains and light colors and white fabric turns yellow, which can't be removed.

All of those fabrics are junk and are harmful to our environment. And, yes, they make me sweat...and I am a person who is always cold.

I do own some outerwear that is made from synthetic fabrics, but nothing else.

Everything on my bed is 100% cotton.

Microfiber is polyester. They just named it microfiber because people won't by it otherwise. I doesn't breathe, of course you'd sweat. It's sad it's hard to find cotton clothing and bedding at reasonable prices......they want us to buy products that are cheaper for them to make and also give them the most profit. Sad. I only buy cotton bedding. Or real 100% bamboo fiber.

No microfiber here either...way too hot and yep, its like being wrapped in saran wrap. Same thing with the polar fleece bedding. It’s unbelievably hot omg. My bedroom is set at 65 degrees so I tried them on my bed. I thought I was gonna burst into flames. That fabric doesn’t breathe either. Gave the sheets to my daughter. 100% cotton percale only on my bed and a cotton quilt.

I only know that we all have different bodies. What works for some, does not work for others. It sounds like you would do better with natural fibers.

I enjoyed reading every one of them. I own a cotton flannel covered, wool filled comforter that I ordered 15 years ago from New Zealand. It's too warm for me for regular winter use, but it does breathe and many houseguests have found it perfect.

Now back to microfiber. I wasted a half hour searching "breatheable microfiber" last night and found it doesn't yet exist. A true oxymoron. I am not anti-synthetics -- when they work. Think bras and swimsuits. I like microfiber's light weight, softness and ease of care. What is needed is a way to make it breatheable. Any vendors reading this? Can someone create a more loosely woven microfiber fabric? A microfiber/bamboo blend?

I believe it can be done........

Thanks again to you all.

Microfiber sheets are not graded by thread count, but by weight. The GSM or grams per square meter, is usually given for most MF sheets. The lower the number, the thinner and lighter the sheet. Some people do better with lower GSM MF sheets because they are thin and release body heat more readily than the thicker MF sheets. The higher the GSM, the thicker the MF sheet becomes and that can also retain moisture from your body (perspiration), making the sheets feel hot. Thinner sheets will allow for evaporation rather keeping moisture locked inside the thicker MF sheets.

Hedge - Your description of being too hot and too cold at the same time is spot-on! Where did you find a knit microfiber cover? Who is the manufacturer?

Microfiber sheets are more like it. I stopped using them this year & went back to just the regular cotton sheets for the coolness. I don't require many covers but hubby does, he multi-layers.

Thanks SilleeMee - That's good information I wasn't aware of. Maybe QVC could start including it with microfiber specs.
