Fast? Slow? On the dot? When I was a child my father was a corporate executive, and we lived way out in the suburbs even though his office was in the city. He drove me to school every morning. My father set all the clocks in our house 10 minutes ahead: alarm clocks, wall clocks, the anniversary clock, his wristwatch. He said he never wanted to be late for work, yet he was forever in such a hurry. He'd speed on the roads to my school to drop me off and then say, "See you later, John, uh Tom, ... uh I mean Lily" and quickly drive away. When I was an adult, I noticed his clocks were then 20 minutes fast. I inherited this. My alarm clock is 30 minutes fast. My living room floor clock on a stand is 25 minutes fast half the year and 1 hour and 25 minutes fast the other half. My stove clock is 27 minutes ahead (it used to be 20, but I keep adding) and don't even ask me how fast my car clock is. When my child first started driving, I got in my car and the clock was correct; I immediately changed it. When my new above-stove microwave was installed, the guy set the correct time on it; the first thing I did was set it ahead. I don't want any "atomic?" clocks because I don't want the actual time. No one knows what time it is in my house but me, and I'm in a rush getting ready for work each morning. I know the real time by looking at my phone, the computer, etc., but the times I want to know the real time most is at the end of the work day and when looking forward to something special.

So, how about you? How do you set your clocks?

I set them ahead beginning with 10 minutes up to exact. We have several striking clocks (I used to buy antique clocks and have sold most of them but I have a few remaining that I like to keep). So I set them 10 minutes, 8 minutes, 6 minutes, etc. I like to hear the striking. It also keeps me on my toes.

I have to add a PS. I have to turn my clock strikers off when my children are home because they recall that is one of the things from childhood they were not fond of.

All of my clocks, except the ones on my appliances, are automatic 'atomic' clocks. So I don't ever set those. Appliance clocks on stove and coffee maker are manually set to be accurate.
