Laundry Hint.

Last week I washed my down blanket and a couple of micro fleece pieces. I threw into the dryer a couple of blue laundry balls, the kind covered with little nubs. I can't believe how fluffy everything came out. The blanket has never been so lofty and the fleece pieces so soft and fluffy. I should have used those balls years ago.

How was the sound of the cycle with the balls bouncing inside? Maybe it wasn't so bad with a large blanket. I live in a one-bedroom apartment and the washer and dryer are not far from the couch where I watch TV or read, so I'm concerned about the sound. I've been considering some of the wool dryer balls, since they may be a little quieter.

I used to use those until I found a couple of the "nubs" in my dryer. So now I use the wool dryer balls instead.

Never saw the ones with nubs but have blue ones with little rounded spikey things that sprout all over them but sort of a hard rubber kind of feel. Got them at a home show many years ago. They clomp clomp in the dryer for the first minute or so just untill they get warm/hot. Then as the dryer is cooling down so do the balls and you hear the clomping again for a minute or so. Nothing horribly loud though....to me anyway but my dryer is in the basement.

Oh maybe the things referred to as nubs are the same thing I referred to as little rounded spikey things.

I have the blue balls with nubs that I purchased from HSN a few years ago. I really like how my towels and wash clothes come out.

I bought a couple of rings that I put in the dryer with my down comforter a long time ago. They're hard rings, and they do work well at keeping the comforter fluffy. I don't wash my comforter very often though. They do make noise. I haven't seen the rings in a long time. Now I just see the things with the nibs.

My friend has been using these dryer balls (w/the nubs) for years. I decided to give them a try and boy, are my towels "fluffier" and things seem to dry faster!

@Alison Wonderland . I've used both and the wool felted ones seem to work just as well and yes it is quieter.

They are also great if you are allergic to scented dryer-sheets

My husband uses the wool dryer balls too, he's the master when it comes to laundry.

@Alison Wonderland I didn't hear a thing. I think the blanket muffled the sound. I can understand why the balls would need to be replaced on a regular basis with the heat and beating they take.

It's my understanding that the wool balls are supposed to cut down on static electricity and the hard ball to fluff. I've also used tennis balls but they weren't as effective.

I use tennis balls when drying comforters, pillows, or down coats. I am curious about the balls you are discussing, especially towels. Do they contain any softener or is it strictly the ball and its structure?
