@HisElk1, I think the only real differences are the thickness of the layers between your body and the air chambers, and that the ones I mentioned are supposed to offer cooler sleeping, which I have doubts about, but will be pleased with, if true. Our sales people were not pushy, thank goodness, because I would have walked out without buying, if they had been.

@HisElk1, Oh WOW Thank you so much for the heads up. I was so busy yesterday that I didn't get to read the forums so I'm just now seeing this.

So sweet of you. I will watch some of the hour-long video that I just found on HSN website, showing this P6 model's presentation. https://www.hsn.com/watch/past-shows?showDate=8/5/2018%2012:00:00%20AM&network=1&timeOffset=0

That was a very good price for the P6 and the modular base, when compared to the Sleep Number website's regular price to get both.

We had hoped to check out the mattresses in-store by now, but too much keeps happening around here, so we haven't been yet. I have been familiarizing myself with all of the different choices on their website, though, so that I will have some idea of what to expect when we go shopping, and how they all "on paper" compare to the p5 that I've tried before I'm really thinking we'lll go with one of the p or i models at this point. The new model called iLE is 50% off (mattress only) thru 9/9/2018, so it is going to be tempting for sure.

I don't know if all of the extra layers atop the adjustable air chambers is going to make a big enough difference to us comfort-wise to pay the higher prices of the i series (more plush) beds. We are each having some chronic pains and we really, really need some pressure point relief.

Thank you again. I'm sorry I missed it, but at least I have a video to watch that will be helpful. :-)

Hi again, @HisElk1.

Well, we went mattress shopping last weekend, and we ended up selecting the Sleep Number iLE model. We tested 4 or 5 models and the ones we found most comfortable were the iLE and i10, i8 being a close 3rd. The iLE won, since it was much less at the time, 50% off. Notice I didn't say cheaper, since none of these are cheap, as you well know. We chose queen with the modular non-moving base.

As you discovered, since ordering from their store or website, it has to be delivered and set up by them, so we were not thrilled about that. The models we liked best aren't sold on QVC or HSN, though, so we had no choice if we wanted to buy them. Delivery and set up will be in a week or so. I will give you a quick update then. Just thought I'd let you know. I am so looking forward to a comfortable bed.

Hi again, @HisElk1, I can't believe this update has taken me so long.

I'm writing this in a way that will hopefully help anyone else who may be interested in Sleep Number beds.

Our Sleep Number iLE bed was delivered 1 month ago. Be glad you had yours shipped and were able to set it up yourselves. The 2 guys, while polite, were late and in a very big rush to get it over with. We would've liked to have watched closely in case we ever needed to replace things, but we just had to stand out of the way as pieces flew into place. There is some sort of stretchy fitted layer that fits just underneath the main outer cover and above the foam. (Outer cover of our bed is just thin material with zippers, nothing like a pillow-top) I guess because of their rush, the stretchy in-between layer was left all bunched up, and the deep big wrinkles could be felt through the cover. Of course we had no idea until they were gone. We had to figure out how to unzip the outer cover, which is very, very tight due to the foam inside, reach in blindly and adjust that bunched layer all the way around the bed, then zip everything back up. We are both pretty strong, but boy was that difficult! It was set up around 9pm and the new bed fumes were overpowering, so between the fumes and an air filter running nearby on high all night, night 1 was rough.

FWIW for anyone reading, if shopping channels continue to offer free shipping and continue to let you set up the bed yourself, I'd suggest going that route, just as HisElk did. You will save a little, and you can put it together perfectly the first time, at your own pace, with no rush or sloppy assembly. The salesman told us that all the new beds being made from late 2017 forward would require delivery and setup by Sleep Number, due to new features, but I didn't think to ask if that also pertained to the models being sold at HSN and QVC, so who really knows. Time will tell I suppose.

The first 2 weeks: It's odd because my husband and I have very different aches & pains and sleeping habits, but we both, during the first 2 weeks, kept thinking that the bed felt good, but not as good as it should. It felt much better than our old mattress, but not fantastic. It was like neither of us could find that perfect air adjustment that provided complete pressure point relief without being too deflated and feeling like a sinkhole.

This iLE model has a huge hunk of foam atop the air chambers, so it seems almost impossible that it wouldn't be sufficient. Anyway, we talked and decided to spend another $100 for toppers, to see if they might help. I ordered from Walmart.com: Sertapedic Superior Loft Down Alternative Mattress Pad, and Linenspa 2" Gel Infused Memory Foam Mattress Topper.

Weeks 3&4: We've had those new toppers for over a week now, and so far it's wonderful. It's like sleeping on clouds. We've been able to keep a little more air in the chambers for support, so it's no longer like laying in a huge sinkhole, but we're very softly cushioned for comfort. I can't say I've noticed any cooling features either before or after adding the additional toppers. I just knew that was too good to be true! LOL but then I'm at the age where nothing short of ice water would help me.

This new bed has finally become very comfortable and we are very happy with it. Having said that, if we had realized before buying that we would with 100% certainty need to add more layers to the (expensive even at 50% off) iLE to make it work for us, we would have seriously considered their cheapest models. Then we could order all the foam and other toppers we needed elsewhere, cheaper, and sort of build our own bed, and pay a lot less overall. My final advice to anyone reading who is considering a Sleep Number bed is to look into the total cost of choosing a cheaper model plus additional toppers vs a more expensive model.

Hope this helps someone. Thanks again, HisElk, for the information you've given me throughout this experience.

@SHOPR, all I can say is WOW after reading your post. I hope you don't mind my font type as I have a scratch on my left eye and the regular font is hard to see as I type; DH is getting my script filled as I type this.

Our bed did cost to ship from Q - it was $55 which I thought was very reasonable. We also didn't experience any sort of smell with ours.

If I were you, I'd be letting the store know about how the delivery went, but that's me. Our previous bed years ago was delivered by the store (it wasn't an adjustable) and the 2 guys were great and told us we could stay around and watch - in fact, they encouraged us so we knew how it went together.

We do have a pillowtop on ours, so we didn't experience what you did. I am glad though you are finally enjoying your new bed.
