House Hunters on HGTV

Wouldn't it be a refreshing change if once in a while they would have a couple who both are looking for the same thing in a house? Every single time the couples are polar opposite - this , as well as most of their themes , has gotten dull & repetitive. Some couples both want the exact same things in a home. We did, we knew what we wanted, where we wanted to be, what we could afford and we 100% agreed.

They used to have couples that were in agreement with the house that they wanted. For some strange reason, they changed the format to couples wanting the exact opposite of each other. I used to love the program, but now I never watch it.

I like to see the houses and the areas. I can do without the couples totally.

Complaining about paint color, carpets and every thing else that can be changed! Like the previous owners should have had the house done for the buyer(s).

They need to have a house built then!

You ca almost speak the dialogue along with them, it is so repetitious. Everything has to be gutted immediately, and they want the house for nothing.

It is all fake. They have already purchased their house. They are told to each want something different to create interest(not that it is working though). You really can't compare your personal,house hunting story to this show as it is scripted.

Yes, it was always scripted. The tension they wanted to create by a couples' opposite wish lists seem to be grasping at straws for ratings. Just like the earlier comment, I only watch now when I'm interested in the location.

I prefer HH International, which is also scripted, but I love the locales, and learning a little about the culture.

@Evie2004 Oh yes, I noticed. :-) It's the same show over and over, just different couples each week.

DH and I only bought one house so far. I don't recall any of the bickering seen on those shows.

HGTV at one time was my first go to channel. I love the decorators like Sarah Richardson & Candace Olson plus some others. Now it is so repetitive and dull. The same decor over & over & over -slight variation from one designer to another but basically same - o same - o. ALL open concept. ALL grey. ALL stainless steel, All subway tiles, all laminate floors etc etc etc etc..... Tarek & Christina is always modern -- The Gaines are always country, property bros always modern. I only watch now if I am desparate for something to do.

It is staged. And they now admit that if you read the information coming out.

I watch to see the new designs, house and furniture. My only problem with the show is the affect if has on buyers everywhere. It seems you cannot please anyone anymore. People come off as spoiled and unwilling to bend. My real estate friends are telling me it is getting from bad to worse. I cannot handle someone who is looking at a home and complaining about the color of the walls or the wallpaper. These things are fixable.

It also seems a common theme nothing is ever smooth sailing. They come upon major flaws in the foundation or roof or building code or whatever.

Totally scripted dialog with every couple saying the exact same lines..."Oh look at the natural light", "So great for entertaining", "Has an open concept look", blah, blah, blah. I lost interest in this show years ago.

I agree, a few years ago I watched it whenever I had time to sit in front of the TV, these days, don't watch it at all. Just like QVC, I don't watch it either, it's become boring and same thing day after day.

I happened upon an episode in Florida. The couple, primarily the husband' choose a house without a kitchen because it was on a canal. Could not believe it.

When we were selling our realtor had a website where potential buyers who had toured the house could leave feedback. Some was so rude it was just terrible , but among those others - most complained that the basement wasn't finished, there were not hardwood floors and the kitchen was oak & did not have Ss appliances or granite counters. Our realtor would respond back to them that if our house had all that they would not be able to afford it, suggesting they could do those upgrades a little at a time. I don't think these younger people realize how much things like hardwood floors and granite counters cost. Fortunately we found a middle age couple who thought our house was the cat's pajamas and couldn't wait to buy iot.

My son and his wife are trying to sell their house. It did not sell last year. It came off the market. They are now doing some updates and it will on the market in spring. Trust me this is a nice house. Told my husband if we ever want to sell our house the words old fashioned will be in the verbage.
