Would you want a curtain insteadof a cabinet under your kitchen sink?

I was just looking at another article from good Housekeeping online. they were showing kitchen remodels and some of them had farmhouse sinks (love those) but instead of a cabinet under the sink there was a curtain - like back in the 40's. i would most surely NOT want that in my kitchen. I can not even imagine keeping that clean and you can't really store anything under there because it may show.Would you like a curtain instead of a cabinet?

No. Never. I remember homes that had curtains like that in bathrooms many, many years ago & thought it was a bad look.

I don't even want curtains on my windows. I hate dust/germ/allergen/bug collectors so I work to find non-woven fabric solutions whenever possible.

there is something temporary and cheap about a curtain -- like a quick way of hiding something. I'm sure there could be some cute curtain type uses, but given the other kitchen trends (granite, stainless, fabulous backsplashes), for me curtains don't seem to work.

I think it depends on the style of the kitchen. I've seen some where the curtain looked exactly right. Personally, I don't think I would like it because I would have to wash it all the time and I don't think it would keep the dust out of the cabinet as well as doors do.

Nope, I keep my cleaning supplies under the sink and I want a door to keep the cats from getting into it. Actually I have to put a box in front of it now because one of the little darlings has learned to sit up and pull the cabinet doors open and in she goes!

Definitely not. I find the look unappealing, but it's less than practical, too. If you had kids or pets in the house you couldn't keep anything under there and, even so, it would be a hazard.

No, I imagine my grandmother had that back in the day. Or maybe my great grandmother. I can see a decorating doing it for picutures or for a home show but I can't see a real life person going for it. But...it would give you place to store your butter churn.

This, absolutely. I'm sure they're right for some people, but I am not one of those people.

I do not care for that look. I did that once, years ago, when a cabinet door broke below my sink and I was too broke to fix it.

I made a gingham yellow/white curtain for an area in my very old kitchen of my lake house. It was adorable! Had old cabinets, yellow counters, old stainless sink and my cute little curtain underneath! We've since knocked down that cottage and have built new. No more curtain for me now. But in my old place it was perfect!

I don't want one in my kitchen since I store things under there that I wouldn't want my pets getting into. I have seen some photos where it looked really good in the type of kitchen they were showing but just doesn't seem practical to me.

Yes, love it. Have it in my vintage style kitchen on all my lower cupboards. It's a cozy cottage look to me. Also had curtains made out of vintage fabric and put in place of closet doors.

When we remodeled the kitchen at the cottage we went retro so the curtain was a natural based on pictures and my memory of how the kitchen looked when my grandparents were there. I didn't care for it for long - the next year we had a cabinet installed. At first, it sounded 'cute' but was not practical.

Probably not, & I'd be taking it down to wash every week which is goofy. But, some people like that rustic look & it's probably fine for a vacation cabin or similar.
