I know a lot of folks do not like ceiling fans, but in the south when it is 95 to 105 degrees and 100% humidity, it certainly helps, especially if you have personal summers or heart/breathing problems.

Does anyone have a ceiling fan they really really like? could you include brand name and style ? I am looking to replace one , and have looked at kichler, quorum, casablanca. I have a hunter in my bedroom., but it is very basic. I also found gulf coast online sold by dans fan city out of florida. I know home depot and lowes has fans but i am looking for one that is a little more stylish and has greater cfms than what they generally carry there. I also have low ceilings. Thanks. Have a good day everyone.

Looking for that something to help move the air and provide extra comfort when needed. It certainly does seem in our area of the country anyway, that our summers are getting more brutal. I bet your southwestern style fan is pretty., although it would not fit in with my living room.

I have heard of something called a swamp cooler which I think may be what you have.

I didn't know a lot of people don't like ceiling fans! Why not?? I live on Long Island and many people I know have them. They are perfect for that "in-between" weather when it's not exactly hot enough for the AC.

Anyway - I moved into my house almost 2 years ago and it had no ceiling fans at all. We installed 8 Hunter ceiling fans throughout the house (some rooms are long and have 2 fans). They are beautiful, work well, and keep the house really cool. Highly recommend!

I won't be much help choosing a brand, as ours are all old, most were in the house when we moved here, one in the living room I picked up second hand.

We don't have air conditioning and it is a must for us to have fans, both ceiling and free standing. I find use for them in summer and winter to move air.

We bought my mom several and installed them, but that had to be 20 years ago or more, and they are stunningly beautiful, and I'm pretty sure we got them at Lowes.

I honestly haven't looked at ceiling fans in a long time. I'm guessing I might have a hard time finding something I'd like, as lighting styles have changed so much.

Good luck on your search and let us know what you find.

In my last home, we installed a Casablanca in the kitchen. Even tho we did have central air, it was used a lot, as it was a much-used, western-facing room. Been working over 30 years now. Would buy one again. Never bothered to change the direction of the blades. Was a sort of wall hugger model. Sometimes it ran for days, not turned off, could barely hear it.

tho nothing seems to be made as it used to be.

We have 5 ceiling fans in our small home - one out on the lanai - 3 in the bedrooms and one in the living room. The 3 bedroom ones are basic white ones with a dome light. The one out on the lanai looks kinda like a ships light - with the metal cage around it. That one made it through the hurricane last summer with no problem. The one we really like is in the living room. It is antique brass which matches our lamps and our DR chandelier. It has a light above the fan which shines up onto the ceiling, giving us a nice soft light in that room in the evenings. If we want to do something like read or sewing etc then we have to light a lamp, but just to watch tv or talk or listen to the radio it's awfully nice to have a softly lit room.

My sincere recommendation is to not go cheap on ceiling fans. The cheap ones wear out quickly and you end up having to replace them. They also get noisy.I don't want to fall asleep at night to the sound of a squeaky fan. They are worth paying more to get a better quality.

Even with AC you still need these ceiling fans if you live where it is very hot. They move the cool air from the AC down and the warm air up to the ceiling. The way my house was built the AC vents are close to the fans so the fans can move the AC air down.

We never run any of them on high - low or medium only.

Editted to add - all of ours have remotes to operate them. So much nicer than pulling chains or having to get a ladder out to switch the direction of the fans with the season.
