Speed Queen for years avoided the water preservation and water temp laws all the other companies had to follow because they claimed to be solely a commercial laundry business. But , in fact, they were selling to tthe public for home use. The government caught up to them and starting this year they are subject to all the same laws as every other company. So now SQ washers have all the same issues as every other manufacturer. Low water levels and water temp. control.

The reviews for the 2018 Speed Queen washer aren't good, the tub & agitator move together now not separately like they use to so dirt & soap are left on clothes especially heavy loads. It's a shame because they have always been reliable & built to last, not like the disposable washers made by other companies. Love that the tub fills up completely with water...many say it's less now, a dial option is available instead of electronic...local dealer says dials will be ending, & the lid opened at anytime...now it locks after a few minutes. Speed Queen has discontinued the residential front load washer & there is speculation that the top load with follow although the company says that isn't true. The stacked washer is front loading & still available. The government nanny goats says nooooo to hot & warm water options, enough water to clean & a lid that opens anytime... it's just ridiculous & I want to see those regulations end. Water isn't wasted, it's used.

I’ll comment on my sq machines which are about 3 years old. They work fine. The washer always defaults to the more energy saving settings, which can be frustrating. It spins very hard and builds wrinkles into clothing. I assume this is so they will be drier and use less energy to dry. The Energy saving wash mode does not fill the tub for the rinse cycle, but I have never noticed that the clothes seem to have soapy residue in them. They seem rinsed clean. Other modes will do a full rinse which I use only for kitchen towels or really dirty stuff. I don’t know how this would compare with the current speed Queen’s but thought I would share anyway. I think it’s important to save water and energy so I don’t mind small inconveniences (too much.)
