Percale sheets

I haven't bought percale sheets in decades, but considering buying some for our small B&B.

Mostly, I have tried to stick with high threadcount as I don't want visitors to have issues with the bed sheets (scratchy, hot, rough).

There were some earlier threads, but I thought I'd check in for current opinions.

Beall's has some lovely coastal prints that would be fun for summer, and not expensive.

I love percale sheets. I've tried other types, but always go back to percale. The last couple of times I've purchased Martha Stewart sheets from Macy's and I've been very happy with them. They launder well, have the crisp, cool feeling of percale and have worn well over time. I think your choice is a great one.

Percale is my preference, as high thread count isn't a big draw for me. I prefer the crispness of percale. I also like that they wash and dry without becoming a wrinkled mess.

I always bought Percale sheets before the Q convinced me their sheets were better. Going back to Percale.

Well, ladies, you talked me into trying them!

FYI, Bealls Florida has a few sets of Panama Jack percale sheets -- some print and some with a pretty embroidered motif.

I'm ordering the white with an embroidered starfish. They are $53.99 + anotehr 25% off at checkout with their code.

I think they will be nice for the summer!

@Carolm, thank you for mentioning that. I LOVE good quality cool crisp cotton percale sheets. It takes me forever to find the really nice ones. I have LLBean, they are not bad but still aren’t as good as the original cotton percale. I really did not like Target’s that are sometimes recommended here. I found them ‘plastic-y’.

I am in Camada and always on the hunt for a good set. The last ones I bought I found at Home Sense. If they are good, I grab them because they are so hard to find. LM

@Witchy Woman, Bealls is one of my favorite stores. I have never looked at their sheets as I have to fly to Florida. Maybe I can unpackage and get DH to pack one sheet and I’ll pack the other🙂!!! LM

It is a fun, on-line store to browse. They have a lot of Florida/coastal themed items. And, they just have a lot of unique items I don't see elsewhere.

And, they have great sales!

I hadn't even considered percale, but saw some lovely sheets with an embroidered starfish and I thought they would be nice for summer.

I'm in Maryland, and about 45 minutes from the Chesapeake Bay, so not realy "coastal"

But they looked so fresh and summery, I couldn't resist!

@Witchy Woman Is Percale a cotton or polyester? The best sheets are cotton with some polyester because they don't wrinkle but I have not been able to find them. Thread count I heard recently is not full proof as far as how long the sheets will last and the softness. All cotton sheets wrinkle terribly. I hate them but I own them. If you know where I can get cotton sheets with polyester, let me know.

@Witchy Woman, enjoy! They are my absolute favorite sheet. I am not a fan of really soft, sateen, wimpy sheets. Gotta be cool and crisp for me.

The only exception to percale for me is LLBean Flannel sheets. Now those I love in winter. LM

They are cotton and probably around 200 or 250 threadcount. But, they were described as smooth and had good reviews, so I'm taking a chance. They were already on sale, and Bealls had another 25% off, so the king sheets were a great bargain.

I have heard that Pima cotton is the best in sheets, but, increasingly, it is getting harder to find and is quite pricey.

Egyptian cotton is tricky -- you've got to watch the percentage of cotton in the fabric. If they are 100%, they do tend to wrinkle.

I've had 1000 TC sheets and everything in between. Those 1000 TC sheets were SO heavy, I gave them away.

This morning, I spent hours online browsing lots of places and some of the prices shocked me -- Over $200 for king sheets! I was going to buy some from Kohl's but could not find the Chaps brand in solid white. I had purchased them before and they were very nice -- a bit pricey, but with a 30% off coupon, I could justify them.

Buying the percale sheets from Bealls was taking a bit of a chance, but since they were not that expensive, I figured I would try them.

Last year, I came out here and described the type of sheets my DH likes. I was told percale is what I should get. Cool and crisp.

Cotton/ Poly blend sheets can be found on Overstock and from Boscov’s at all different price points. Shop online.

Percale is a description of how a fabric is woven, can be cotton or poly or a blend.

Egyptian cotton is over-rated. High threadcount is over-rated

I buy the Vintage Wash 100% Cotton percale sheets at Target when they go on sale.

I used to order quite a bit from The Company Store. Sheets, down comforters, comforter covers, etc. At that time they were in La Crosse, WI and all their goods were made in the USA. I found the flat sheets ran short and once I found others that did not come untucked I stopped ordering. I always enjoyed ordering from them, their CS was wonderful. Cannot say how they are nowadays but I do still get their catalogs and they do have some pretty things.
