We have very few 'fancy' clothes, so most of my loads are hot water wash (and I have a full fill washer). I don't have the option of anything but a cold rinse, but I can manually run another wash cycle in hot or warm for the rinse if I need to for some reason.

I'm old fashioned and not going to change. I like most of our clothing and linens washed in hot. And I've not damaged things by doing so.

I do have a few nicer things that I'm more careful with, and use a warm cycle, which comes out closer to cold, then line dry.

Bathroom, bed and kitchen items are hot wash, hot rinse.

Clothing is cold wash, cold rinse first, then a second wash with warm wash, warm rinse.

My washer has a special temp that is between cold and warm. I use that for almost everything including towels and sheets. Rinse is same temp.

Most dark clothing gets washed in cold water, cold rinse.

It’s just the two of us and our clothing is never really dirty. I get oil stains from cooking, so I pretreat them before dropping them into the washer. I use a heavy duty commercial grade Whirlpool washer and dryer that must be around 20 yeats old. It works great. I hope I never have to buy and use a newer washer that only uses a thimble full of water.

Once in a while, I will use hot water wash and cold rinse, but it is usually for something like a dog towel or doggie bed cover.
