My style flows well from room to room but I do not like the same old same old in every room. My main goal is to make each space welcoming and soft.

I mainly like Traditional and really good Shabby Chic pieces and then tweak everything with my own twist. I am not afraid to try something new and different and rarely, if ever, follow the crowd or the norm.

I'm one of those attracted to a few different "styles" in decorating, and definitely, different eras. This is usually kindly called "eclectic".

I associate my darling parents with both Art Deco and Midcentury Modern, and those styles also predominate in the classic films of the Thirties to Fifties that are my favorites. So that's a no-brainer must-have for me.

But I also have a "traditional" streak, with cozy overtones, and have a few antiques received or acquired over the years.

Am also very drawn to what has been loosely called "Belgian farmhouse" or maybe something like 'farmhouse industrial', ha.

I'm comfortable integrating these themes, sort of without even thinking about it, in my house-- although the predominant strain would definitely be "classic/traditional". But to me, life is more exciting, and more personal and individual, if we allow our other influences to peek out, a little bit...

Do you like to do that, or would you say you fit most happily in one specific look?

I would call my style transitional; not any specific style. I tend to favor Spanish colonial furniture but since the real antiques are ridiculously expensive, I buy pieces that suggest that style. Most of my accessories are Indian-themed. I have Navajo rugs, pottery, Western themed items like a large carved horse head sculpture, oil paintings and some prints, pillows, lamps, and throws. Most of this stuff came from my mom but we shared the same interests and tastes.

I would say we have more farmhouse antiques -all of which are inherited. In every room we have an antique or antiques. Some of my moms paintings are on the wall. I have few transitional pieces that “fit” with our antiques. I don’t own an antique that wasn’t passed down.

I too have an eclectic mix with several mission style antique pieces that my DH inherited from his grandmother. She was married in 1905 so she had what was popular then - mission style. I also have a lot of country style oak furniture that we bought when we were married in 1983 because that was popular at that time. It blends in well with the oak of the mission style pieces. All in all we find our home to be cozy and comfortable & that's all that matters.

Definitely eclectic... Primitive American/English with some leather furniture and black wrough iron (lamps) but I also incorporate color with soft throws and interesting pictures, etc. My rule of thumb is: If I walk by it and think "Gosh I'm glad I own that"....then the purchase was successful.

No specific look for me.

I answer the call for my love of many different kinds of things, by decorating different areas of my home, in different styles.

Briefly, the family room is more farmhouse and primitive. The master bedroom is more feminine and Victorian (but not overly so, like the term conjures up in the mind). My son's old room is mission oak and masculine and clean lines. Main floor is in transition, but more traditional with antiques featured.

I see homes that everything is in the same style, same color scheme, and sameness runs from all the same paint color to all the same flooring, same cabinets, same fixtures etc. throughout the entire home. It can be calming and cohesive looking, but in my mind, can be very boring if left to live in it for too long.

So for me, I like a room to have a basic style to it, but all my rooms don't have to be of the same style. I love the variety, and it allows me to buy things I see and love, as there will most always be somewhere in the house it will 'fit'.
