I like it and if she think she has achieved that look and she is happy ...mission accomplished. It is each individual persons interpretation IMO.

I agree with @DREAMON - only she knows if she achieved the look she was going for. If she is happy with the look, then nothing else matters. Who am I to say it is right or wrong?

BtW - I like that it has a clean, fresh look and is pretty much clutter free.

The home is very nicely styled and quite minimal. However, if I'm judging how it looks as an Afro-centric minimalist theme, it fails. There is too much beige and white, and not enough color to live up to the Afro part of the name.

It does not appear minimalistic to me. There are way too many items in the rooms...furniture and wall decor breaks up the planes of geometry. Some of the textural elements like the linens are great. But I would not call the rest of it minimal at all.

I love the colors. They don't shout at you as you look at the room. I see hints of it being Afrocentric. It's a decor that one won't tire of for years. The main thing is if the homeowner loves it.

I don't see the minimalist in this decor. The furniture itself is to me, as it has a thin and spindly look with all the metal, but there is an awful lot of decor on the surfaces that doesn't say minimal to me at all.

I don't see what I would consider a lot of traditional African influence either.

Homes like this, to me show no personality, but look like something that someone went to the stores and put together all at once to achieve some kind of look, but when I see it, I don't get who they are or what they are in to.

That lady in the first picture looks like one of the actresses from This is Us.

This reminds me of a current commercial running which advertises

online decorating service.

It shows a gal purchasing everything she thinks ‘works’ but the room still is not cohesive.

I kinda see this in the OP....the pieces are cute/pretty, but nothing ‘goes’ together.

It is very nice, and presentable, but I'm puzzled as to what is Afro-centric Chic Minimalist Glam about this style, as opposed to say, Italian-centric or Swedish-centric or . . . ?

I think it's nice, but too staged looking, not warm.

Not specifically Afro-centric except for the African art. But the thread does say Afro-centric with minimalistic glam. The only thing minimalist is the very light grounding color to try to make the rooms look airy. I do not like anything about the living room. The shelving is the least attractive to me -- it looks too IKEA, in my opinion. I do really like the first bedroom though, a lot.

I found the article and here's what the article said:

Her inspiration was simple: afro-centric chic meets minimalistic glam. "I like to bring pops of colors into my space. I recently purchased a painting by Jamaican artist Kitwana Robinson – it inspired me to highlight bright teal and vibrant orange in my home," she tells HouseBeautiful dot com.

I didn't find any examples of Kitwana Robinson art (only Kitwana Seitu). I wonder what I'm missing?
