Community Yard Sale -- Oh dear!

I did well considering I had lots of "competition"- in the past, very few people participating in the community sale had things from QVC, HSN, etc. but as the "newer" people have moved in I saw lots of these items to name a few:

a) Lock N Locks

b) Temptations - #2 most popular (even yellow & polka dot pieces). Some were full sets!

c) Lori Greiner

d) Joy Mangano - huggable hangers for sale could have been the #1 seller

e) Kitchen items: Paula Deen, Cooks Essentials, Cooks Companion & lots of "cast iron enamelware" from different vendors

My friend who is a Christmas lover has almost everything from these shopping channels you can imagine -- it was like walking down "memory" lane. Most the table was VPH, Bethlehem lights, trees, etc. Even at the end of the day, she still had alot left.

And another lady must had had 100 "precious moment" figurines, capidomonte pieces, snowbabies, hallmark ornaments & other "collectibles" and when I asked her how sales were (after 2 hours) she said she was GIVING them away for a $1-3 or FREE just so she didn't have to bring them home! Guess those days of people collecting have gone by the wayside.

I'm so glad I put my "higher priced" items (including lots of Temptations) on NextDoor and was able to sell them prior to the sale.

I can't believe I didn't buy one thing today but I was tempted! After purging my own stuff I didn't want to buy another thing...hopefully, this will last!

Good for you. We are slowly purging and getting rid of things we no longer use or need. Some things we have donated and I have had good luck selling some items through a local FB group. It is a slow process. I wish I could blink my eyes and make it all go away. It is amazing what you accumulate over a lifetime and also things you purchase because of the "emotional" connection.

I agree @GCR18. That's what I do.

My husband doesn't agree with me, he thinks he could sell it at the local weekly flea market. I said to him if he wanted to do that, go ahead and keep whatever $ you get, no need to split it - just make sure to stop at Goodwill to drop off what didn't sell cause I don't want it here back in the house.

Good deals can be found at yard sales, but they just don't interest me. I don't care much for thrift stores either, although I know people who visit GW weekly and find 'like new' items.

I have a neighbor who goes to goodwill & othewr thrift stopres daily. Gets stuff for the lowest possible price then resales on e bay.

We're in the process of purging our house and I have a friend whose son just graduated from college and he and a few friends need furniture for their apartment. They're coming over sometime in the middle of April with a big truck and they'll go through my house and take whatever I don't want. I just want it gone. My two children have already taken what they want, so everything that I don't want is going. I'll donate the rest. I will try to sell a few pieces that I think are worth trying to sell, the rest I'm just giving away.

I posted this because I don't frequent estate/yard sales & yesterday was a "eye opener" (per se) that I'm not the only one who has (had) excess of the listed items!

Guess I was trying to say "I'm not alone " in my quest to de clutter. and more interesting I've been going to this sale (either to browse/buy or sell) for 7 years -- this was really the first time I saw so many items from shopping channels!!!

Today, it's a pleasure to go in my guest room & closet it's neat & clean....gee as a matter of fact, my whole house is getting back to normal -- what will I do!!! 🙀Not shop😉

Enjoy your Sunday - I'm off to church & brunch. Then on the hunt to fill my GD easter basket so the bunny can deliver to her ...

I agree with you but some of our things were too expensive to donate. You never get what you paid for them or what they are worth but I do get something back. Most of it does go to Goodwill or ReStore Habitat for Humanity.

@KentuckyWoman I understand. My friend had a yard sale and I packed up stuff I no longer liked or used. I didn't go to the yard sale, but my friend told me the stories of people talking her down. I told her sell it, I don't want it back. I think it was worse hearing how much things sold for. LOL. I'd rather donate and not know what happened.

@homedecor1. I can only imagine what a Q tag sale looked like. The stuff I moved on was from the Q too. I know am item won't fetch what it was purchased for, but 80% off is painful. 😀.

I’m so not a yard sale, garage sale, thrift sale kind of girl. I’m busy trying to get rid of the stuff we don’t need. The last thing I need to do is bring in things that someone else didn’t want.

Yard sales are out of the question for us. Too much work. Several of our neighbors used to have an annual yard sales each fall. The last year we did it, we actually had people attempt to walk off without paying and the others would try and talk you down on the prices. After that, we all agreed NEVER AGAIN. It was awful.

I was 'worried' about you with the sale coming up! I thought you would be tempted (heck who wouldn't, your area has such great stuff), but you held strong!!!

I think you were really smart to pre sell too. There was just too much competition to move it all or get a good price.

I know it's hard to imagine .... I've been sooooo good!

I almost caved had to go to Target today. I bet I haven't been in there since last summer I stayed focused...right to kids clothes/toys!

Its getting easier. Tomorrow i'll be finishing up by dropping off my various small things to Habitat.💃💃
