I got a new washer and dryer a few years ago. I got a HE front loader Samsung washer and matching dryer. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them! I like mine so much I just got the exact same (new and improved) ones for our newly built summer home! And for those complaining about them having a musty smell.....you have to just do common sense maintenance. I've never had any smell with mine. But I follow the manufacturers instructions and keep everything clean inside and walla! no smell. I just don't know how I even washed my clothes before HE washers!

Old washer is making nasty noises, so it's time to research a replacement. Have been looking on-line @ LG top loading washers. It doesn't have an agitator. Reviews sound good. Anyone have recommendations on anything? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Before that I had Sears Kenmore Elite series in both washer and dryer. The best thing I can say about the LG washer is that it doesn't "dance" all over my ceramic tile like the Kenmore did. One of the complaints about front loaders is that they get a terrible musty odor if you don't follow the maintenance instructions. Instructions say to leave door open after each use to air the machine out. About once a month you need to run the "clean machine" cycle with bleach or Tide washing machine cleaner, which is very expensive. All in all, I don't think I would purchase a front loader washing machine again of any brand.

I have a Maytag Bravos top-loading machine (no agitator) and I've been very pleased with it. Have had it for about 2-3 years now and no problems. As with any HE machine, you use much less detergent so be careful! My machine has a large capacity so I do fewer loads.

If you get an HE washer be prepared for a basic load to take well over an hour!! I had a front load HE and I couldn't stand the front load aspect- also the length of the wash cycle. I went out and bought a basic machine at Lowe's. Around $350-400, great reviews too!

Wow! A lot of HATE on this thread! I Love love love my Sears Elite HE front load washer! I have had it for 7years now and it has preformed excellent! Yes, I leave the door open between Washings, no big deal. There is a clean cycle I run once a month that sanitizes it and cleans it really well. No mold, no smell EVER. I can run small loads in 30 minutes or big loads take about 50 minutes. Clothes get rung out so well on the spin cycle the dry time is very short! I have always used Oxyclean powder in with each load, put it right in with the clothes. I use liquid HE detergent in the dispenser. I would purchase again in a heart beat! Best washer I have ever owned!

I will never buy another front load washer. I have a Bosch for three years now and it is shot. Parts gone out etc. I don't recommend a front load either. I am going to look for a washer next week. I know I will get a top loader but don't know which one yet. Someone told me to look at an ordinary Speed Queen. They are not HE but says it works much better than the new washers.

Beckyblu

I *LOVE* my LG top loader HE washer and dryer!! Got the pair about two years ago, not a problem, love love love. You can fit a ton of stuff in the washer because there's no agitator and you can set the machine on Speed Wash and Speed Dry settings, each runs about 35 minutes. I use the detergent packets. One problem that I have encountered - and it's not the machine's fault - is that the bedsheets I have are made of a certain kind of fabric that soaks up so much water that it's extremely difficult to extract all the water in the spin cycle. I usually hear the machine chime when it's unbalanced and I need to manually wring out the sheets several times then let it finish spinning. Like I said, it's not really the machine's fault. I highly recommend the LG products.
