Nor’easters and quilting

I live in coastal Nova Scotia and winter can get long. Every winter I make a quilt. That keeps me busy and I enjoy the project. This past month, I can measure my quilting progress by the number of nor’easters we’ve had. In fact, we’ve had three in the last ten days and my fingers are getting sore😃. I think one more storm will get me to the end of the quilting on my current project. That storm is predicted for Tuesday lol. I will still have to do the binding but the end is in sight.

Here are some photos of this winter’s project, Wedding Rings. It’s great to have a job like this to while away the stormy days. LM

@Lilysmom Very beautiful and what neat stitching. I haven't quilted in years and arthritis and a stroke prevents my crocheting or quilting. But, I do enjoy seeing other peoples projects. Great way to spend winter. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

It's cloudy and cold here in southern Mo today with temperatures only in the 40s. I have put gardening on the back burner for awhile.

So beautiful!!!! A talent I wish I had!! I have a quilt that my dad bought me over 40 years ago when we used to go to Amish fair every year in Kutztown, PA.

My good friend gave me a beautiful quilt when I moved into this house.

Don't know if you keep the ones you make but I do know I always think of the many hours of work they take to make & craft when I snuggle up in mine!!!😊

My sister taught me to quilt almost 25 years ago. It was a very special gift. I am always an active person so winter doesn’t usually slow me down except for the big storms and heavy snowfalls. I enjoy my quilting time by the wood stove in the family room. It rounds out my winter activity.

I was serious! My French Grandmother used to make beautiful quilts like you. She even was approached to sell them, but they were for family only.

She could do all that stuff and my mother could sew (but didn't like it) and do crocheting, etc. My parents enrolled me in three sewing classes. Finally one day my Dad came home from work - I had just gotten the bobbin stuck, lifted the machine, cut the wire then, half electricity went out in house, and there was smoke from the wire when he walked in. (Before that, while in sewing school, I sewed a skirt to the machine: My Dad had to pull it out somehow. My machine had to be repaired so my Mother put the zipper in - guess she didn't want to chance my breahing hers. Made a dress in anither class. Wore it once. It was unsewing as I was wearing it - not from being tight!) That evening, my mother suggested sewing wasn't for me and traded me her tape deck for my sewing machne! Years before that, though my grandmmother - a very patient woman - finally gave up trying to teach me to knit. She and my mother explained we all have different talents and I could draw and paint: i.e., no more knitting lessons! I was the only child out of a huge family she was unable to teach!

Years ago, when I had men in my life (also very unlucky in love) made sure they could sew. Fortunately guys learn that stuff in ther service.

Anyways, it's not from lack of trying; just can't sew!

@Lilysmom...beautiful quilt and beautiful job....you are a fabulous quilter! I used to quilt, but never attempted that pattern....I usually took the easy way out. Very nice.

@eddyandme, I have no sewing talent. I was terrible in home economics. Hated sewing. My grandmother was a tailor. She hand made men’s suits.

I guess the the difference is that I enjoy quilting. I also have more patience than I used to. LM

The reverse is as pretty as the front! Great work! I quilt too, but by machine. I can imagine that you do get a bit of extra time on your hands when you are in a snowstorm and can use the warmth of the quilts.

Your quilt is absolutely beautiful and the pattern looks very familiar to me. This was made by my mother-in-law and has been on our bed for several years. It is fading from the sunlight but I love it. I know how much love and work goes into every quilt made. You are very talented. What do you do with your quilts? Someone will be very lucky to get yours!
